Size (and dollar amount) of your registry? Or Registry Tips

Ostrich, on May 28, 2014 at 8:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 26

If you're about to respond how you aren't doing a registry for whatever reason, or aren't expecting anything- kudos to you but this is not the board for that... I need help- Working on registrys this week. Sooo how many guests are you expecting? Do you know the dollar amount of your registry? Price range of items? Which registrys do you like/hate. I think I've decided on BBB and Crate and Barrell- but have no clue how much stuff to put on it. Any insider into about your registrys that you love or hate let me know!

    We had 100 person bridal shower, bbb we registered for about 35-40 gifts, target about the same. Most of our items were between 20-50 dollars with a few around 100. Our registries have about 5 items left on each one following the bridal shower. The first items bought were the 50 dollar items and the bathroom items. Also probably about 20 guests bought items not on our registry and about 10-15 bought gift cards/cash. Hope this helps Smiley smile

    BBB said to register for something like 3-4 times the amount of guests you're expecting to have. We are having anywhere from 100-125 people and have registered for close to 300 items ranging from a few dollars each to a $400 Kitchen-Aid Mixer.

    My registry isn't huge. But, my guest list will be between 160-175. Not sure how many will come. I have 104 items on my BBB registry and like 15 on my Etsy registry.

    My price range is like $5.99 - $329. I have a kitchen aid mixer and a $300 set of pots and pans. My grandmother got us those. Everything else is under $200 I think. The $5.99/6.99/7.99 stuff are the random kitchen utensils that needed upgrading.

    We have about 120 things on our BBB registry. They range in price from $5-$450. Most are in the $30-40 range. We also have to very small (fewer than ten item) registries at Kohl's and Amazon. We will invited about 90 people to our wedding and I'mhaving two small showers.

    Most everything I've put on ours is just upgrading, so I probably have less than average. Pricing ranges from $10 to $150.

    BBB definitely pushed it on the 3x the guests too, and we're having a big wedding so I fel a little ridiculous. Especially because we were registering for like 3 dollar plates and getting pressured to register for corn holders, etc. that would never get used but matched our stuff.. Saying we could return it for something bigger we didn't get- but I don't like the idea of that

    We registered at Macy's and their registry indicated that we should put twice the number of items as guests we expected. Since I figured most people would be giving money for the wedding and gifts would be given at my shower, we registered for a little under twice the amount of guests I expected at the shower. (I expected 35 guests at the shower and I think we registered for 60 gifts??) Note: in this number, I counted each towel, for example, as one item. (Hope that makes sense.) Prices ranged from $10-$200. Knowing our guests we figured people would spend about $50 for a shower gift and we figured some people would go in on gifts together.

    Most of the items were purchased for my shower and two items were given as (part of) wedding gifts. After the wedding festivities, we had just three items left on our list which we were able to purchase using our registry rewards (plus a few items not on our registry). At Macy's the registry rewards are 5% of the total amount purchased off of our registry and 10% of whatever I spent using our Macy's credit card.

    Hope this helps.

    We registered at BBB and Target. The BBB registry was bigger, about 200 items or so, the Target one was about 60-70 items. Our price ranges are everything from $1 to $500. We have had one shower so far, and will have (I believe) 2 more. Some of the more expensive items were the first to be purchased (Kitchenaide mixer and attachments, cast iron dutch oven, fine china/silver)

    The rule of thumb that we read was that you should register for about twice as many gifts as people you are inviting to the wedding, and that you should have gifts in all price ranges so that there is plenty of selection for everyone to be able to spend what they are comfortable with.

    As for which we liked... BBB was fun. Other than our very first visit, when our consultant was very overbearing, we had a lot of fun looking around and finding what we liked. The Target was also fun, but we are having issues with a lot of things going out of stock, not sold anymore, etc.

    We had a lot of fun with our registries, being able to play around with what we wanted for our home- things we wanted to replace, things we wanted to add. I hope you and your FH have as much fun with yours as we did with ours! Smiley smile

    I wasn't going to do a registry. A lot of my friends complained. I talked to my mom before I started. I didn't want to ask for anything expensive but FH and myself have lived together for 5 years and own our home. She convinced me to put any lol different price points. People can go in together for the more expensive things and spend less. Then everyone is happy.

    We registered at Macys and Target. Both of the registries actually told us a suggested amount of items to register for. (I believe Macy's was around 150 items) We're inviting about 120 guests to the wedding and about 50 are being invited to the shower.

    We registered for things in range from $3-$200, with only 2 $200 items. (vacuum and wine fridge). In total, I'd say we have about 125 items that we registered for. At first, we only had about 100 and I felt like that we didn't have enough lower priced items, so I went and added some.

    The good thing about both Macy's and Target, is that I was able to download their apps and scan items from my phone into my registry. (We did this at Target over the weekend since they amped up their lawn section.)

    Edit- most of our items are in the $20-$70 range.

    If you want to take a look at our registry, you can search Kristen Lucas at either Target or Macy's.

    We also registered at BBB. The shower is about 40 people and we picked out around 70 items ranging from $10-200.v most items are in the $30-70 range. The staff member at BBB told us that we need to add more items to the registry since we have a wedding guest list of about 110, but I don't think we will.

    We just registered yesterday! Went with amazon.com, BBB and Macys.

    Macys = Approx. 25 gifts.

    BBB = 30

    Amazon = 80

    Lowest priced gift is about $2.00 and the most expensive is around $300.00. We are inviting 76 guests to our wedding but were told to register for our engagement party that is coming up, we will then keep the same registries for my bridal shower and wedding. We put a huge variety of things from bag clips to a crystal vase. I'm not the crystal type of person however it was recommended that I put it on my registry because we have 'old fashioned' guests who like to buy the keepsake things such as crystal vases and photo frames; even though its something I see as kind of useless it's better to show people what you would prefer!

    We registered at Kohls. There were about 70 items on my registry ranging from $5-$150. I think maybe 5 items were between $100-$150. After my shower and last I looked there were only 15 items bought off my registry. I invited 60 people to my shower, about 25 showed up. We invited 210 to the wedding.

    We registered at Williams Sonoma and Honeyfund, we have/had items that ranged from $15 to $1,000. Got mostly $200 items. Register for a wide variety of items that you want, the more options that they have, the better. And do not feel bad about registering for expensive things, if that's what you need, than that's what you need.

    I registered, but for a small amount of items because we really don't need that much stuff. We got a lot of money. If you'd rather receive items, then register for a lot. If you'd rather receive cash, then don't register for that much.

    One tip, we registered about a month before our shower, I wish I would have gone and looked at it the week or two before because a lot of people told me they couldn't find things I had registered for, they were out of stock.

    We have a huge range in our registry, from $10 to $900 (I don't expect anyone to actually get that $900 set of pots...). Our issue is most of the gifts lend themselves to group purchases because we have a lot so we registered for upgraded things. We have 125 guests, probably 30 items at The Bay, 15 at myregistry.com and 20 or so at Royal Doulton (dishes). My side of the family traditionally gives cash though so our registry is on the small side.

    Having more gifts on your registry does not mean youre expecting all to be purchased but it does provide variety for people to choose from. You dont want people going on to find two choices left, one five bucks and one five hundred. Thats why you put like 2x your invited guests. And this isnt unique items. It includes dupicates. Like 4 towels for the bathroom is four items. Sp some guests buy you a few gifts just on their own if they buy you a set.

    That being said, we are inviting 150 people and have about 220 items. There just wasnt anything else we wanted on there rihht now. Cheapest is 2.99 and most expensive is about 300. Unless you count our king mattress set but people just donate whatever they want to our dream fund for that.

    We're having a 150 person affair, and we registered for just shy of 150 gifts. We figured we could add more when the registry started dwindling down.
