Size 22 & 24 brides!

Sarah, on September 21, 2017 at 12:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 68

I want to see your dresses! Especially if you went with an a-line dress with a sweetheart neckline & lace fabric.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged after David's Bridal and looking at other boutiques in the area though none specifically cater to plus size brides.

EDIT: I just didn't like the dresses I tried at David's Bridal, but yes they have a large plus selection!

Thanks for the encouragement!

This is my a-line Stella York dress that I am in LOVE with. Street 20/22, had to order it in a 24.

Thankfully, my David's Bridal experience was much more accommodating. I'm usually a size 24 but somehow I fit into a size 20 dress. I think it was probably stretched out since it's a try on.

My is A-line and very lacey! I'm going to add sleeves once I do my alterations. I can find the product link to it.

@BlushWedding & @BahneyBride -- great dresses! I am impressed you have them already! I am a little less than a year out from the wedding. When is my cut off for actually ordering a dress would you say?

Another view. I have large hips and a large butt. My chest and waist are relatively small. And my arms are bigger

DB's might vary their in stock from store to store. When I went there to dress shop - in Western PA - I was pleasantly surprised that they carried 90% or more of their dresses up to a 30-32.

I've heard great things about Cocomelody but they only have a brick and mortar store in L.A. I believe. They are super affordable and have custom sizing.

I'm adding this belt as well, and you can see the lace detailing a little better here.

I highly suggest finding a boutique that carries plus sized designer samples. I don't know where you're located, but I went to a place in New Hampshire that had a "curvy couture" boutique in their store. It was like a plus sized dress mini-boutique with TONS of plus sized dresses. As a matter of fact, most of them were too big on me (never thought I'd say that trying on wedding gowns). I felt so confident trying on dresses there. I had a ton of options and it was nice that they all actually zipped so I could see how they would really look the day of.

I don't have my dress yet. It's on order. I went in at the end of August, picked it out, and it's not scheduled to come in until December. So beware that some dresses can take up to 4 months (maybe longer!)

Also, my seamstress was really pushing for a sash. O don't think I care for it, but it does help accentuate the curves (without sash)

I ordered mine at the beginning of August, but they did say it could take up to 6 months to get my dress in (which still gives me PLENTY of time). I didn't expect to order a dress the day that I did - I actually went up with a friend to see if the store really had all these plus sized dresses they claimed to have lol. Once I tried it on I was done. I knew that was the one. I didn't even have my mom with me so I would up FaceTiming her before I purchased it. Store was about 2hrs from my house, figured I better just save myself another trip! Lol. I ordered the dress in moscato with ivory overlay. The sample was ivory over ivory.

I also didn't intend to order my dress that day. I'm glad I did. I was in a strange headspace, over analyzing everything (even though my wedding was well over a year away). Looking up countless pictures and styles online. My grandmother finally took me to David's Bridal because I wouldn't stop sending her pictures and the first dress I tried on was the one! It's ivory with a champagne underlay and I'm getting the veil in the picture too, which is champagne.

I didn't have any luck at David's either. The one near me is horrible. I went to a smaller bridal salon and they were great. Size 22 Alfred Angelo dress. Don't settle- find a dress that makes you feel beautiful. It's out there!

I loved this plus-size A-line dress at David's Bridal, model photo below. It was my second choice. (I'm a street size 14 but needed a size 20 when I tried it on, mainly due to my chest.) I looked on their website before visiting to see which ones I thought might look good on me, but also listened to their stylist's recommendations. This one comes in sizes 14W-26W.

I bought my actual dress at an independent salon. It's by Casablanca and I believe a size 22. You have to call around. I believe my salon carried dresses up to size 28 or 32.

edit: Somehow missed your edit the first time. I still loved this dress at David's though.
