Sitting/dancing in a Fit and Flair Style Dress

Kasyah, on February 16, 2020 at 3:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 9
I just had my second fitting a week ago and never thought to try and sit in the dress until then. Even though the seamstress had me shimmy it up to sit down it didn't look good nor was it comfortable. Standing up it looks incredible though!

I'm worried that come dinner time I'm not going to be able to sit without having issues. Also, it's making me nervous about dancing as it doesn't have much give. Other ladies that had fit and flair dresses- was this an issue for you? Did you find the dress loosened up as the night went on and you felt fine dancing as well? I'm 6 weeks out from the wedding so I may just be overthinking this.

I had a fit and flare dress. I had the same issue until my 2nd to last fitting. I decided that overall comfort was more important to me than it being tight all the way to the knee are. I had her loosen it just a tad up to my mid thigh area. It still looked great & was much more comfortable. I was able to sit, dance, and wore my dress all night with no issues.

I had my mermaid dress tailored so that I could sit, dance and go up/down the stairs to the alter and to the bridal suite. I’d heard way too many stories from friends and on here about brides not being able to sit and eat due to the dress fitting too tightly. The material on my dress was covered in lace appliqués and didn’t stretch. My husband and I love the photos where we’re dancing it up on the dance floor at our wedding, so I think it was worth it to have enough room to move vs being super, super tightly fitted.

Awesome, I still have plenty of time so I'm glad you mentioned this. I will talk to my seamstress at my next fitting.

This is very similar to my dress- covered in appliques. I hoping she can let it out so it's much more comfortable. I love my dress so much! Want it to be comfortable all day.

One of the dresses I tried on was a tight fit & flare. The consultant showed me how to “perch” on the corner of the chair and then slightly lean back for support.

I wish mine had shown me that trick lol it makes sense since it will smooth out the stomach area a bit to be leaned back at an angle. I may have to try that. Thanks!

    Hi Kasyah,
I have a fit and flare also, my seamstress let it out just a bit around my thighs and now I can sit comfortably, and now I ❤️ my dress.Sitting/dancing in a Fit and Flair Style Dress 1

Gorgeous dress! My problem is more in the stomach area. I am wearing shaper wear but when I sit is when I notice it the most. I'll see if letting it out around the stomach might help. I don't want to compromise on the slim look it gives to my hour glass figure though 😔

Oh yes Kasyah, your seamstress should be able to fix that, they really work wonders, I need many alterations for mine around the thigh and stomach, plus I have less than B cup boobs and needed sewn in padded cups, and my dress is perfect now!!! YOURS will be too!!! 👰💒
