Sister in Law “thank you” Gift

Gianna, on April 1, 2019 at 12:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
Hello everyone! So I need some advice. My soon to be sister-in-law and I have had a rocky relationship since I met her. Her older brother is my fiancé, and her and I are the same age and have some similar qualities (which is why I think we clash so bad), but for the most part we are pretty different. ANYWAY. She asked if she could take over something for the wedding to eliviate some stuff off of our plates. She decided to do the favors for us and has also been pretty involved in reaching out to us about the wedding and offering her opinion on things. She is one of my bridesmaids, and I got her a thank you gift similar to all of my other bridesmaids for a thank you for being apart of the wedding and all. I feel like I should get her a little something extra, as a separate gift to say thank you for your added help with favors. What are some ideas? She’s a very sentimental person, but doesn’t really wear jewelry and isn’t much of a girly girl. I’m at such a loss!

Maybe instead of purchasing something, you can write her a card expressing how thankful you are for her extra help!

I was thinking that! I know I’m over thinking this, which is why I came here for some help lol. I guess I feel like since her and I are always on and off (like currently she’s not speaking to me because my fiancé and I couldn’t come visit this weekend *eye roll*) that a physical gift would maybe be in my favor on potentially staying on her good side? Lol. When I started asking my bridesmaids she made a comment about bridesmaid gifts and how they need to be personal and sentimental, so I guess that’s also in my head getting me to overthink this..

I think that you can do whatever you want for BM gifts! Don’t overthink it! I’m probably getting mine some sort of clothing to wear while getting ready, and I’ll write each of them a nice card.

If you wanted to get something physical for her, do you have any photos of the two of you together from a time that you were getting along, or from a fun memory? You could purchase a nice frame and put that photo in. Or you could always get a “Sister” thing (bracelet, necklace, etc).

Yeah, I think that’s a good idea! I can do the photo in a nice frame and a nice card! Personal and sentimental! I really am on a tight budget, so this is ideal for her to get a little something extra while also being sentimental. Thank you!!!

I was going to suggest a nice photo of you, FH, and her (and her SO if she has one) from the wedding in a nice frame. This can be mailed after the fact with her thank you note.

If she is really sentimental, I'd do something personalized. Maybe hand write her a letter thanking her? Or get her a personalized picture frame?

My sister in law wrote me a note along with my bridesmaid gift when she married my older brother 10 years ago and I still have it. A heartfelt note can really go a long way

Hi Gianna! Did you decide to give your FSIL a framed photo? Were you able to source a nice frame?
