Silk Flowers verse Real Flowers

Staci, on November 27, 2019 at 3:19 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21
I am having a hard time justifying the amount of money a florist wants to make my centerpiece arrangements using real flowers. I can make my centerpieces for a 1/3 of the money using fake flowers. After the wedding I was going to sell the centerpieces. Please tell me what you girls did.

I did not go with a grocer , but some local grocers In my area do affordable wedding flowers. The extra stress and hassle days before wedding turned me off from doing my own. I didn’t want to worry about it. I was able to find a wide range of florists and assessed all their sample invoices and picked one. You might be able to find someone to do it

This is exactly why I'm doing artificial flowers, and I'm not doing floral centerpieces. I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money on flowers that will die in a couple of days. So, me and my ladies will have silk flower bouquets, and the men will have silk flower bouts, and a couple of corsages for my FMIL and FHs aunt. That's it for flowers. My other decor consists of candles and lights.

I found a local florist who is very reasonable. She is doing 4 bridesmaid bouquets, 1 bride bouquet, 11 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, a unity candle arrangement, 10 hydrangea balls for the pews, and 19 garland greenery centerpieces for $1300 and that includes prep, set up, and delivery! We have three places she is delivering; the hotel, ceremony and reception venue. I was going to do it myself, but I was getting so stressed out. You might find a local florist who is reasonable. I think it makes a difference what flowers you use too. Hydrangeas are our main flowers, and they don't take as many stems to make full bouquets like only using roses, for example. We are using hydrangeas, roses and eucalyptus. The greenery is mostly less expensive greens with hydrangea and rose petals with some eucalyptus. You could ask the florist up front "What can you do for this price?" then you know whether or not to go any farther with them.

I'm a flower girl though! I love real flowers and lots of them, so I never considered fake flowers. But everyone has different preferences. It will be beautiful no matter what you choose!

I found brides bouquets.com and they are silk. I would rather silk as I can order in advanced and maybe even preserve. I am not a flowers person and do not want to deal with real. Sometimes artificial is cheaper. It depends on what you prefer. Check etsy for some more options.

I actually hate the smell of flowers which is why I went with fake. I also DIY'd all my centerpieces which saved even more.

I used fake flowers for my bouquet and fake greenery around venue, if people notice they think you are smart and practical, but honestly most people never remember the centerpeices at weddings!

To save money but still have real flowers I wanted, mine are being ordered from the local Kroger florist and ceremony arrangements are from FiftyFlowers!

We are doing the foam real touch from Ling’s Moment. We’re having a small brewery wedding, so we couldn’t justify the cost of a florist.

Side note: we are quickly realizing we are not florists so thanking goodness we have four months to practice 😂😂

My mom and I are making the centerpiece ourselves. Except I ordered ALL of my flowers from Sam’s Club. I paid $850 for all my flowers.

I’m in the same boat, I’m unsure what to do but am leaning towards fake/silk so everything can be made prior to the wedding. I’m not at all a flower person so I can’t justify the cost of a florist.

I had originally planned on using silk flowers as well. But, after going to Michael’s and hobby lobby, and doing a mock up of what I wanted, I realized using fake flowers was going to be very expensive. I started reading blogs about brides who had done their own flowers, and it seemed like a very very stressful thing. There were so many logistics I just hadn’t considered. And, since we were having a DW, it made it even more complicated- if I used silk flowers, I would have to transport them all. If I bought real flowers in bulk & had them delivered to the hotel, I would have a hotel room full of buckets of water and flowers, and be stressing about constructing all the centerpieces the night before wedding. And that’s only IF they arrived on time- A bride here on WW actually had her flower delivery get lost and not make it before the wedding! 😱 In the end, I changed plans and decided to just have a florist do all my florals. I know it is going to be more expensive (only about 1/3 more though!), but the cost is worth it to me. I would rather not be stressing out about trying to make my arrangements look good, spending hours and hours trying to construct them, and having to transport them. Now, a professional can make them look beautiful, deliver them, and set them up for me. One less stress right before the wedding! If you are a super crafty person though, and are good at flower arrangements, it may be more beneficial for you to construct your own. I just knew I wasn’t that talented LOL If not, you might want to check around with local florist, and get some price quotes. You may be surprised! The person I chose to do ours was super helpful – I told her what I wanted and what price point I wanted to stay at, and she made it happen! She has lots of suggestions on how to keep costs down and still make everything beautiful. I’ve also heard that some places have grocery stores that will actually do wedding florals very affordably!

For our centerpieces and everything we are doing sola wood flowers and for the bouquets were going to go with a florist! At my sisters wedding we had to make our own the day before and it was pretty stressful and we were up late doing them. So we’re just going to get small BM bouquets at a florist and then mine. We bought the sola flowers yesterday for the sale and got about 700 flowers for $200!

I am using 90% silk and mixing in real ones from the grocery store. I don't blame any bride or groom for wanting silks, I think it's a lovely idea

I originally wanted silk flowers and I'm so glad i changed my mind and went with real flowers. The smell and look of real flowers is truly amazing! I purchased flowers for my centerpieces from a local farm that grows beautiful flowers and you go through the field and pick what you want and it's affordable. The bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages were made my a florist I know

I will be renting silk bouquets and boutonniers from Something Borrowed Blooms. Very inexpensive, no waste, and they also provide centerpieces and aisle markers if you want.

I went with Sola Wood flowers. They always have deals, fast shipping for cheap and they look real. Plus I can start now on playing around with arrangements and not worry about them welting. I got all my floral for around $200. I may need to get some more but honestly it will not be a huge expense as they always have really good BOGOs

We went to a wholesale florist and got all of our flowers for a discounted price. We'll have to assemble everything ourselves but we know how to so we don't mind! If you're able to/willing to assemble everything yourself I would say go to a wholesale florist and see the price difference!
