Silk Flowers okay?

Denise, on October 31, 2007 at 4:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

I was considering for the wedding ceremony to use luxury silk flowers for the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets. I think it is such a waste of money to pay about 500 dollars for something that may last for two days. Instead, for more than half off, I would pay for something that could last a lifetime. Tell me your thoughts.

Silk Flower are ok and you can spray them with this spray that I dont remember the name of for them to smell like real flowers. Plus it is up to you and your preference. Do you see your self using the flowers after your wedding is over? That is what you need to think about.

I'm not at all crazy about silk flowers, primarily because good ones usually cost more than fresh flowers. BUT, there is a company near me (in the Pacific NW) that does do nice work, so I'm sure you could find one where you are. Also, this person rents flowers, so it does save some money there. Have you considered renting live plants and trees for your decor? I had a client (see Ariana on my reviews) who rented a dozen trees which I put white battery operated twinkle lights on & then veiled. It was gorgeous & a nice "green" option. The trees on the aisle in the coppery wedding pictures in my portfolio were loaned to the bride for free!

I think silk flowers are a good idea, especialy if you dont want to pay for real flowers, or if someone is allergic. I plan to use artificial/silk flowers in my wedding. and if you want them to look more real, there is a spray that you can get at hobby lobby or michaels that you spray them with to make them look more realistic.

There are different grades of silk flowers. Grades 4, 5, and 6 are the better ones. There are also real touch and Floramatique (brand name) that look and feel real, some even have an aroma to them. If you look at my storefront, you can see the real touch and floramatique in a light pink bouquet. That can give you an idea. Tall centrepieces with an artificial orchid and filled with water, is an idea for you, and no one would know they are artificial. Be careful though what you buy if putting in water. Some lower grades will bleed the colour. Higher grade silks are very difficult to tell when in arrangements if they are real or not. Good luck!!!!!!

No! I'm sorry, but I think silk flowers are tacky. If you're getting married in the spring, summer or fall, consider going to a local farmer's market and buying flowers from them. You can find absolutely gorgeous arrangements usually for about $7-$15 each. I went the day before our wedding with my husband and picked out a bunch of bouquets. We ended up spending about $50. Then, after the rehearsal dinner all of us girls had a ton of fun working with the flowers. We took apart the big bouquets we bought and each bridesmaid got to arrange her own flowers. I had also bought some floral tape, pins and a few spools of ribbon in our wedding colors so they were able to wrap the stems. Just leave them in water in the fridge overnight & they'll look great for the wedding the next day. I did get myself a beautiful professional bouquet, which was definitely worth it. We also had the corsages professionally done.

It's your wedding day, use real flowers. Silk flowers are tacky I think. There are certain places you can gimp cost from, the flowers is not one of them. you can choose simple but elegant styles that will not cost you too much, or use some green fillers.

My friend used all silk flowers for her wedding. She had a winter wedding, so the flowers she used went very well with her theme. I see nothing wrong with silk flowers except they can be tidiuos to assemble. I almost used some silk flowers for my wedding, and now that I think about it I probably should have and that would have saved my disappoinment with my flowers I spent nearly $1K on. Anyway, Im not sure where you at but if you have an A.C. Moore art and craft store, they can make arrangements for you for free when you buy all the materials and flowers. I hope this helps some. Good Luck!

My cousin's fiance used silk fowers because she has serious allergies. She bought them on ebay or something, so she got a great price. I know you can't count on quality when shoppng on ebay, but my point is that she ended up with GORGEOUS flowers that happened to be silk. From our rather close seats, we couldn't even tell. If cost is your biggest issue in this choice, consider using minimal flowers and decorate with other things. We are only have flowers for people to carry or wear. The rest of the decorationg are candles, ribbons, and anything else sparkly or gold (my wedding color).

Make your own choices. And enjoy them!

My fiancee and i are on a tight budget, yet i was still considering using real flowers....however his mom has SEVERAL severe allergic reactions to flowers. So what I am thinking about doing is making the boquets and such real flowers, and for table decs my fiancee and I picked out silk daisies in our wedding colors. We are simply using the daisy heads to surround the large candles which will be in vases filled with glass gems. This will then be surrounded by floating candles. So the reason I used fake flowers is because I wanted his mom to be able to enjoy our special day as much as we will. Smiley smile

SPDD your designs are lovely and I would have never known the bouquet wasnt real flowers. Personally, Im not into flowers so ill be happy with a silk bouquet however it all comes down to what I can get cheapest.

Silk flowers are more economical, and you can keep them forever. If you are doing them yourself I use afloral.com to make my bouquets, you do not need a wholesale license or tax I'd to order from them. They also deliver quickly. Hope this helps! Thanks, Kim
