Signs and Decor

Heather, on July 18, 2020 at 10:07 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 17

Can you lovelies post a list of their signs and MUST have decor? I have an idea of what I want but with less than 4 months, the heat is on and i am stressing.

It doesn't help that my "best friend" and bridesmaid has just ghosted me. Smiley angry So I am trying to not stress about "less important" things like decor and worry about her and/or getting a new BM.

Hey girl I’m sorry your girl friends did that!! Focus your energy on the positive, your wedding day! My wedding is in October and we found a few wooden signs on Etsy that say ‘Fall in Love,’ and another that says ‘My Favorite color is October.’ We also purchased cut-out hearts from Edgar Allan Poe books to scatter on the tables. I have been buying all my decor from Etsy because it’s inexpensive and arrives quickly. I bought a few spooky candles and will have baby pumpkins around. (I’m a bit obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe in general, lol).

Sorry your BM ghosted you, my MOH has been less than communicative lately but she started classes and works full time so I know she’s got a lot on her plate. It’s still hard when these are the people that mean the most to you. I wouldn’t replace someone four months out though, the new person will know they were a second choice and there’s just really no reason. Many people have uneven wedding parties and it affects absolutely nothing.
For signs, I have a welcome sign, guest book sign, seating chart, and directional sign telling people where to turn because the ceremony site is hard to find. We decided not to do a “take any seat” sign, or reserved signs. We may do a memorial sign for those we’ve lost.
My event coordinator is handling most of the decor for the reception (fresh greenery, and candles primarily), I just have a few personal things I want to set out. I’m diying table name cards rather than numbers, some frames with favorite quotes and poems, and some stuff for the sweetheart table and backs of our chairs- that’s still in progress. I’m trying to keep it simple because we have to haul it all 2 hours to our venue, and haul it all home, so I don’t want to go overboard and have the car absolutely stuffed. I also don’t want to either be loading up a lot of stuff after our reception or enlist friends and family to do it all while FH and I go off to enjoy the rest of the day. We really focused on things that are important and relevant to us as a couple- quotes and poems because I’m lit major, baseball references/stuff for FH because he’s a baseball fanatic, the table numbers are all the places we went and things we did on our anniversary trip when we got engaged so they tell the story, etc.

Here is the decor I used. No decor is a must have but think about what your priorities are and what you can do with the time you have left.
Ceremony: programs, blankets, hand warmers and baskets; arch flowers; lanterns with flowers for aisle markers; reserved seating signs for family; unity candle
Reception: centerpieces (jar with flowers and small candles); table numbers; seating chart; welcome sign; hashtag sign; guestbook and sign; card box; sequin table cloths for guestbook & cake tables; buffet labels and drink sign; memory candle/pics/flowers, mr & mrs sign and toasting glasses for sweetheart table

Well I had initially asked a friend and she declined due to work. She is now in a new position and said she would be happy to be a BM. i haven't decided just yet but she was actually a first choice! So that part, I am not worried about!

I love all of that and absolutely agree, i would not want to haul all kinds of stuff either. Thank you so much for your input!

What signs do you have already?
Guests can figure out most things on their own. The signs that are most helpful are listing table numbers/names, food choices (stations or buffet..what is offered and any dietary restrictions), and bar offerings.

I have our guest book sign, the hashtag one, cards and gifts, in loving memory, table numbers. I am making unplugged, bar sign and welcome sign this weekend. Our wedding favors will be places at each plate setting. The venue is providing food labels.

I just feel like I am missing important ones lol

I believe your need for signage would depend on your venue space. Is the layout easy for guests to negotiate? Is it obvious to find the front door? Is the ceremony space in a different area than the reception?

Out venue was pretty straightforward: the main parking lot was right off the road and the front door was decorated and well lit. And once you walked in there really wasn't anywhere else for guests to besides the event hall in the next room. Because of this we only needed a seating chart, guestbook and gifts signs.

We had a welcome sign, cards and gifts sign next to our card box, "please sign our guestbook" sign next to our guestbook, and small signs identifying the 2 different flavors of our wedding cake. Our florist took care of the rest of the decor, since we had floral centerpieces, etc. We ordered most of the signage from Etsy. My BMs didn't help with any of the decor, nor did I expect them to--that was something I did on my own. I would recommend checking out various types of signs on Etsy and simply ordering the things you want

I don’t expect any of my BM to do any of that at all! I am a huge crafter so I’m making all my own stuff. I think that’s why I’m stressing so hard.

Yay! Smiley laugh Throughout our planning we asked ourselves, "do we really need this?" Ended up saving us hundreds!

That’s amazing! I’m really glad that I’m crafty but I didn’t want to overdo it either!
