Signature drink with open bar?

Aqualeo, on February 24, 2017 at 1:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

So this may be a silly question but here goes. Is it weird to have a signature drink with a full open bar or is this something more often done with a beer/wine package as an extra? I've never been to a wedding with a signature drink so I wasn't sure.

It is usually for beer/wine packages as it gives guests another alternative....if its open bar they can drink whatever they like

I've mostly seen it done with beer/wine packages, but that doesn't mean you can't do them with an open bar.

I've seen them at weddings with a full open bar (my cousin's comes to mind). She and her H had a full open bar, but also a bride's signature drink and a groom's signature drink. It reflected their style and added a touch of personalization. I thought it was cute, and I really love seeing touches at a wedding that let me get to know the couple that much more. So if you WANT to do it and have the budget, why not?

I've only been to full open bar weddings, and some have had sig drinks as well. They usually do them in big batches so they can be quickly poured. I think they are a great personal touch, and wish I had thought to do it for my wedding.

I have also saw it at weddings that have the open bar but not the premium brands (like flavored vodkas etc.) Say you wanted a Pineapple upside down cake drink.

We had a full premium open bar and had two signatures drinks. It was something different than the average mixed drink for our guests to enjoy.

I'm having a full bar, and two signature drinks. It's included with our package.

I've been to open bar wedding that had them... the signature drinks were obviously mixed drinks that you normally wouldn't think to ask for?

We're having an open bar but plan on doing a signature drink or two

Signature drinks are just a fun way to add a personal touch to the bar! I've seen them at plenty of open bar weddings!

Thanks for the responses guys! I want to do mojitos! We do have open bar but not like a crazy amount of choices (like all the flavored vodkas & such).

We were going to do an unofficial "mint" theme with mint BM dresses, mojitos, & chocolate mint cake but we tasted the cake & it was terrible lol. Still want the mojitos though!

Coming from someone who bartended her way through college, mojitos are a huge pain in the ass to make! Your bartender is going to deserve a big tip for all that muddling!

@kelsey yeah I know they are! Do you think they could be made in a larger batch?

We had a full open bar and we put signs on the bar that said "his/her choice" and listed our favorite drinks.

Mojitos are not a good idea for sig drinks. they are hard to make. Our venue specifically said mojitos would not be allowed as a sig. drinks because of this reason.

At my friend's open bar wedding, they greeted guests with Mojitos or white wine on a tray. You can do whatever you want!

Our package has a full open bar, but also included a signature drink. We just went with it. I also went to a wedding in the fall that was full open bar and still had a signature drink. I don't think it really matters.

We a big craft cocktail people, so we plan on doing a cocktail list of half a dozen or so "signature drinks" in addition to the full open bar. Whether you are having one or several, I think it's a fun idea because it gives people an idea of something new to try.
