Showing up late to reception

Chip, on April 29, 2016 at 5:46 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

Not for my wedding, but for a friends.

I’m not an “invited guest”, but I’m invited to come to the reception.

A friend of ours is getting married in a few weeks. My boyfriend is DJing the event, and the bride said she’d be happy for me to come along with them and be there too. I’ve got a pretty important event being hosted by a mentor of mine (that would be offended if i did not go) that morning that runs into the afternoon (no set end time, just ends when it ends), and it takes me about an hour to get to the venue. Reception starts at 6, but I'd only be going for the dancing, I don't expect to be fed.

Should I cut out of my morning event super early to be there on time, cut out a little early and be there a little late, be there late, or not at all? I dont want to offend my mentor, but I also want to go to the reception but not offend the bride by being late

If you aren't actually invited to the reception I don't think she'll be offended if you're late.

Doesn't sound like you know this couple particularly well, and your BF will be working, anyway, so I would just skip it, focus on what you're doing with your mentor, and leave it at that.
