Show Me Your Heirloom Rings & Tell Your Story!

MrsD, on January 21, 2019 at 11:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

Do you have an heirloom engagement ring? If you do, show me pictures & tell me the story!

The center diamond of my ring belonged to my maternal great great grandmother. She got married in 1892 to my great great grandfather. The original ring had two small sapphires on either side. One had fallen out and the other had been chipped. My fiance took the center diamond & had it put into a Simon G setting! I love Simon G, he does a ton of vintage look jewelry and it fits me perfectly (as well as the diamond).

The diamond is a 1.3 carat miner cut, which isn't common anymore. Miner cuts were more common in the 1800s and early 1900s. They are hand cut, meaning no two are alike.

It's been hard deciding on a wedding ring to match. Simon G does make a matching one that fits along the outside, but I hate things not being symmetrical and getting one for each side makes the ring too big. I found a ring on Etsy, it's REALLY small & simple & silver. I'm leaning towards that!

I dont know as much about the diamond as you do yours, but I know it was just a loose stone my paternal grandpa had. My dad gave it to FH when they discussed Dad's blessing. I was very close to my Papaw and it was only fitting that it made it's way into my ring.

My ring and my grandma's ring.Show Me Your Heirloom Rings & Tell Your Story! 3My grandma's ringShow Me Your Heirloom Rings & Tell Your Story! 4

Beautiful ring!! Do you have a picture of the bands your considering getting?

Mine is not an heirloom, but I hope it will be someday! I would love for our future grandchildren or great grandchildren to use my ring or the diamonds from my ring. I think heirloom rings are so beautiful and sentimental.

While it is not my wedding/engagement ring, I did wear my grandma's wedding ring on my wedding day. I wore it on my right hand and it was so meaningful to me. I loved having a piece of her with me. My dad let me keep it after the wedding, and it wear it from time to time.

Wow! How beautiful you were able to wear both. I love that! I'm considering wearing my grandmother's pearl necklace on my wedding day, but I'm not sure yet. My mother has her ring (she is divorced) and her mother's wedding ring, so I'm hoping our future children will be able to use them. I'm thinking something very simple but cute & personal like this one for my wedding band: https://www.etsy.com/listing/456035732/dainty-coordinates-ring-stackable-band?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=ring+with+longitude&ref=sc_gallery-1-3&plkey=01aeba0a729b4c2c8bf744dafb0f6b4f9b196b1e%3A456035732&ep_click=1&pro=1

I know it's pretty cheap and not typical, but I could always get a typical band in the future if I changed my mind! I just really like having the coordinates of where we first met on the band and it being so small and simple.

Don't have an heirloom ring but I love reading stories about the background of your rings. Your ring is gorgeous by the way! I feel like it could totally stand on its own without a band! Would you ever consider switching your engagement ring to your right hand and wearing a band on the left?

Thank you so much! I'm not a jewelry person so I probably wouldn't wear rings on both hands. My engagement ring is pretty much the only jewelry I wear ever and I've finally gotten used to it after being engaged for 13 months hahahahaha! I think I'm going to get a small simple Etsy ring that's $20-$50 and if I don't want to wear it then I won't. Or if we are traveling somewhere or doing something I don't want to risk my ring, I can just wear the band!

I absolutely love that band idea! I think it's a really sweet idea. My band kinda similar (small plain white gold band, no diamonds) and I got a lot of questions about it from people. We had budgeted $1,000 for my band, but I just liked the $135 band so much better!

The band on my ring belonged to my fiancée’s grandmother and got a new diamond set into it. My future mother in law turned the original setting into a necklace so that we can always be connected to each other and their family history

My ring is not exactly a heirloom ring, but it contains parts from three generations of my FH's family.

My FMIL donated the diamond and setting, which used to be here from her marriage. My FH's grandmother donated gold jewelry that she no longer wanted to form the band. And my FH picked out the Garnets which are my birthstone.

I love that I can see the entire diamond in this setting. Smiley smile

    It's very sentimental to me.

My ring is a new platinum setting that we picked out together, but the diamond is my mother-in-law’s! She and my father in law gave it to my fiancé on the condition that it was for me. It made me feel so good to have such a big sign of approval from them!!

I love my fiance's family ring! It's from the 1930s! I can't even believe that! He presented it in its original box as well! I can't wait to share this ring with my future generation as well.
