Should the ring bearer actual have the rings?

Mrs.Mayes, on March 18, 2014 at 8:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I'm looking at pillows and boxes for one of my ring bearers to carry(the other will hold a sign). I'm a little worried about having him actually carry the rings because he'll be walking across a bridge with water under it. The ceremony is on an island so if he happens to drop it there goes the rings. I'd be much less upset if it was just an empty pillow or box. Should I get the best man to carry them just in case? The ring bearer is 6 years old.

Yes. 6 is young. Ours was a super mature 12 so he had our actual rings.

I would let your ring bearer carry fake rings. Like little tin ones.

FH says for the price we paid for the rings, hell no! lol

Instead, they're gonna carry "Here comes the bride" signs.

We have two ring bearers and one is carrying "Here comes the bride" while the other will have either a box or pillow. @kt-v I like that idea.

Do you want your rings falling in the water never to be seen again?

Give them to the best man. Your ring bearer can carry fake ones if you want him to hold a pillow.

I'm going to find some either in a vending machine or at wal-mart for mine to carry around, he's 5 and a little rascal would think it was HILARIOUS to throw and watch everyone search for the rings lol

No!!!!! I teach first grade and there is no way I would give any of my six year olds real rings. Have him carry fake ones and give the real ones to your MOH and best man

I'm giving one the real rings but he's literally getting handed them at the beginning of the aisle and passing them off the the best man at the end of the aisle. If bridges and water were involved or even sand, there's no way in hell.

I would say no re: the real rings because of the water/bridge issue. My 11 year old son is my RB and will have the real rings...but he just has to walk 20 feet down a dirt path, so it's not a big deal.

I'm glad I saw this. My ring bearers are 18months and 4. I had never heard of giving them fake rings and will now definitely not let them carry the real ones. I was pretty paranoid about that.

I really didn't want to give him this rings but was afraid he might get upset that there wasn't anything on the pillow. Fake rings will fix that. Thanks everyone that commented.

I've never seen a ring bearer be allowed to carry the real rings--fake ones, or something else cute, for sure.

Fake rings!!! all the way! Just have your best man pretend to get the rings from the ring bearer. Your rings are too expensive and too necessary to entrust to a young kid (or dog, as some people do).

Depends on the kid. Ours has been a ring bearer like 3-4 times and each time he had the real rings, and he's only 4, 5 at our wedding. Wouldn't trust him if I hadn't seen it myself. He prides himself on a great ring bearer, I think he believes he can make a career out of lol
