Should I wear a wedding dress to my reception?

Qyieisha, on January 12, 2014 at 4:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

My partner and I are going to get married in Washington D.C. It will be just the two of us, an officiant and whoever happens to be walking by. We will not have a wedding in our home town, but we will have a reception. I don't know if I should wear my wedding dress or another gown. I want to wear another gown, because I am terribly clumsy. But I also want my mom to see me in my wedding dress. I don't know what to do.

You could wear both. Walk into the reception with it on. Then a hour later change. When I was planning on getting eloped I was going to wear my dress to the reception/party/get together. I was gonna make sure everybody saw my dress somehow lol.

Definitely wear your dress. If you choose, you can change into a reception dress.

I have the same question! I'm getting married in the DR with about 50 guests but will have a reception a few weeks after for about 200 guests that won't make it to the DR. I wasn't planning on wearing my dress, but I spent so much on it this gives me the chance to wear it twice. Right now, my plan is to wear my dress to the reception here, as long as it is not too dirty from pictures on the beach! I say go for it...get you moneys worth!!

A friend's son got married out of state. His parents hosted a reception here a couple of weeks later. The bride wore her gown and he wore a tux! It was nice to see them in their wedding clothes.

Wear your wedding dress and then at some point in the evening switch to the other dress. This is a current trend and won't seem weird to anyone.

We are also having a small ceremony and then a reception/party the next day. I'm wearing my gown as a bunch of people asked me if I was going to wear it and it's not a crazy ballgown. I love it and want to wear it so I am!

If you want to wear it, go for it! I'd suggest maybe getting it hemmed just a bit shorter than you might otherwise do, if you are worrying about tripping. If it has a train, make sure to get it a good bustle or get it cut off. I'm personally getting the small train on mine hemmed off as I'm not bothered about it and figure it would have been bustled 95% of the time so might as well just get rid of it.

It would be great to wear your wedding gown to give everyone the opportunity to see you in it.

Both, if you reception is more than a couple of hours you can change into a 2nd dress.
