Should i travel to nyc for my wedding dress?

Ashley, on September 1, 2019 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hey guys!

I've tried on way too many dresses in Dallas, and can't find anything that I like so far. Is it worth it to travel to NYC to shop for wedding dresses? I visit Northeast often so it wouldn't be too much of a problem, but I was just wondering if NYC would have newer/ more variety of dresses. Please let me know if anyone has suggestions Smiley smile Thank you!

I feel like that’s not worth it because you would have to go multiple times to pick it up, alterations and things like that. I wouldn’t want to travel with my dress if my wedding was not a destination wedding. Maybe look for some other bridal shops outside of Dallas or in another larger city in your area.

It's hard to imagine a huge metropolitan city like Dallas can't give you access to every wedding dress possibility except perhaps a fully custom designer/couture gown by a NY designer. I agree with others that buying a wedding dress at a considerable distance from where the bride lives or where the wedding will be just adds extra stress/time/expense to the process. But, if you're in NYC all the time anyway, you can certainly schedule appointments there. I just wouldn't expect to find a completely different set of options -- just more hassle at potentially more expense (if nothing else because of the huge difference in cost of living; the base cost of the dress may be set nationally by the manufacturer, but taxes and other charges may differ by market).

    Hi!
Im actually flying to nyc and while I’m there I am going to Kleinfeld but I recommend doing your research on the specific dress you have in mind and if you can ship it to your home so you don’t have to fly back and fourth for fittings so i don’t see why not Smiley smile before booking I searched specific designers that aren’t in my area that are in nyc

I think you should keep looking near by. I watch those shows and question, instead of using the money on a plane tix, just up the budget on the dress. They could've used that money to buy a better dress. Thats how i see it.

I flew to NYC and found my dream dress in Kleinfelds after trying on a million dresses! I have the option to ship it to my home in California where I would be able to find someone to do the alterations locally.

I got mine there. I went to Kleinfeld and Vera Wang. Got my dress there, but I'm from Baltimore so it was quick.

But there are tons of other stores there too. And nyc and la are two cities that many designers have an exclusive flagship store. Just depends on your budget.

Well, VW is my favorite. I don't know what your pricepoint is, but Monique Lhuillier has a flagship salon, Marchesa has some eveningwear that looks very bridal if you want a more unique dress, and Wedding Atelier has some european and australian designers that I don't think you'll find many other places in the US.

What is your style. I’m a Dallas local and I’ve hunted hard and almost every designer in nyc is here. My favorite places: blushing bride boutique!!!!, stanley korshak$$$, stardust celebration, and bridal boutique if your looking for Berta.
