Should i splurge on Chiavari chairs or suck it up?

Molly, on October 23, 2019 at 4:44 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 37

Hey fellow brides! I am stuck on a decision here and need some advice. My venue requires that I use an outside vendor for ceremony chairs since it will be outside. I have gotten quotes on white fold out resin chairs and it's about $2.95/chair (not incl. tax, delivery, damage, etc). The venue provides chairs for the reception but the color drives me nuts. My mom and FMIL think i should just suck it up since they're just chairs. Another option is to get chair covers but they cost about $4.00/piece... and looks tacky. The chairs that I want are the gold chiavari chairs. I can use them for both the ceremony and the reception and it comes to $6/chair. I could put that money towards getting a great videographer or the honeymoon instead. But part of me thinks if im already required to spend money on it, why don't I spend a little more to get exactly what i want? I've attached pictures of the different types of chairs.

So...should I splurge or suck it up?

I'd suck it up aha because honestly no one will remember or be into those kind of details as ya think. Unless the chairs are actually ripped up and whatever, I'd just leave it

    Hi Molly!

Congrats on your engagement! I would think about which one is more important to you. Money towards your honeymoon, a videographer or the chairs?

As far as the videography, you can also check Bark or Thumbtack for decent pricing as well. Maybe that might help in making your decision.

I personally wouldn’t worry about the chairs unless they were stained or something. Nobody remembers those details.

I wouldn't worry about the chairs! They don't look bad! I'd definitely use the money towards a videographer or honeymoon. Smiley smile I do love chiavari chairs, though! My venue has all white fold out resin chairs.

I splurged and it may have put us over our budget but i don't regret it. My venue either had ugly red and green cushioned gold chairs, the option to use chair covers, or upgrade to chavari chairs. To me if i was going to spend money on covering them, i might as well throw in 500 more to upgrade. Truthfully as a guest i don't care either way and prior to planning my wedding i wouldn't have even noticed at someone else's venue but for my wedding that was the one thing i wanted. I wanted to walk into the reception with everything look clean and modern. Im convinced my venue got the ugliest chairs in hopes of everyone upgrading 😂

If you rent the chiavari for both the ceremony and reception, I assume you'll get enough that you don't have to move them from place to place? Bc that would be a nightmare. I personally wouldn't worry about the inside chairs at all. As soon as people come in with jackets and purses and wraps and whatever, you won't see them anyway.

Dang, those chairs are bad. (Imo) I would be going crazy too, I don't blame you! I like the white chairs, at least those get the job done, and for cheap. The Chiavari chairs are my all time favorite too - and I was quoted a similar price, but I decided to go a different route to save money. (My venues given chairs weren't quite as bad - So we went with those.) But hey, if I were you, I'd pick one of those 2 chairs that you do like. I don't believe in sacrificing every detail just to save a little here and there. Smiley smile

The chairs and carpet were the 2 things I noticed the most when I was looking for our reception site. I was going upgrade to the better chairs. Those details were things that mattered to me.

I think you're okay if you leave the chairs alone, but if it really bothers you I would upgrade. If it's in the budget, I don't see why not! The chiavari chairs are beautiful, by the way

I would leave it! The cheaper chairs are nice in my opinion, and little splurges can add up quickly.

Actually, the chairs you don't like look the most comfortable, so I think you should save money and get a bonus of comfort Smiley smile

Chiavari chairs just scream wedding to me. You only get married once so get what you like. If you have wiggle room in your budget to get the chairs you want then go for it. It's worth it just so you don't have to worry about the what ifs

Suck it up girl. So not worth it! I went through the same thing!!! It was ridiculous 2 bucks a chair! Not ok. And the outdoor they are only their for the ceremony, the guests will be fine. I would totally put it towards something else to enhance the night!

I'd say do the chivari chairs since you can use them for both and actually spend barely anything more for exactly what you want! The white chairs are good for outside, could you use them for the reception too and find a happy medium?

I would just rent the resin chairs IMO just because they charge so much extra for insurance etc plus the time it takes to move them from outside to inside seems like a hassle

Since you have to get chairs for the ceremony anyway, I would just get the chiavari chairs and use them for both. It will look better overall.

It’s totally up to you, but if the chiavari chairs completes your vision, I’d say go for it! I’m doing a tropical modern theme and Im not fond of the chairs at my venue. I’ve seen it with cover chairs and I don’t like it. I’m renting bamboo chairs and I love the way it reinforces my theme. Good luck! Let us know what you decide with. Either way, your wedding day will be so special!!

I would go with the chivari chairs, but that's just what I would do. If the other chairs go with your theme, then I'm sure itll work out!

We had resin chairs and luckily our caterer only charged $1 more for the nicer non cheap chairs. So basically it was like $100. Which was nothing in the grand scheme of things. I say better chairs seem to be the better options verse chair covers, which I’m not a huge fan of
