Should I rent a heater for my tent?

Teems, on September 3, 2009 at 11:02 AM Posted in Planning 1 12

My wedding will be a combination of indoors and outdoors. Ceremony outside. Cocktail inside. Buffet in tent outside. Dancing and other traditions back inside the house.

My wedding is in Baltimore during the second week of October..... Do you think that I need to provide heat for the tent even though my guest will be back and forth? The tent does have sides that come down as well. Its just that I am coming towards end of my planning so don't want to spend any more money unnecessarily.

I think it depends on the time of day, I remember my FH (he rents tents) told me something about the fumes from the heaters being hazordous in the closed in tents.

I would check a site like weather.com and see the historical avg temp for that day/time. Most likely the woman will be in dresses and guys in slacks and dress shirts so they could get cold easily.

The wedding starts at 12:30 and everything else will be done by 5. I have checked the sites and the average is 65-75. Of course the rental place is telling me to get the heater $$$. But the caterer doesn't seem to think its necessary. Just a little confused.

If the average temp. is 65-75 you shouldn't need one. All the guests will be walking back and forth, which will create body heat. With everything that will be going on that day and all the movement, they should be fine. I would say you should consider it if you were going to be sitting in the tent the whole time. Just keep guests moving, which if there's dancing, that should be no problem!

I'd have one on reserve, just in case. They can be worth their weight in gold!

Since the wedding is during the day, you are probably okay. I am getting them for my venue because the wedding is at night. The venue has 5 already, but I am paranoid and rented another 3. I was at a wedding in NC last year on the exact weekend that ours is and part of the reception was on the patio and dancing was outside and I was really cold and was dancing in my pea coat. I don't want my guests to do that. You can just never predict.

I had to pay a deposit to rent mine, but if the weather forecast is really nice 3 days before, then I don't have to rent them. I loose the 20% deposit, but it is better than not having them reserved when you need them.

That is true. I am fine reserving them as long as I can cancel them at the last minute. Its just at nearly 200 bucks a heater, I don't want to throw that money away. And its not like one heater is all you need. It might be cheaper to move everything in the house if its too cold.

Funny just when you think you have everything you need something else comes up, meaning more $$$

What type of heaters did you use for your tented receptions? I'm having problems finding them in my area!

I am not sure. My tent rental company was providing it. I never ordered them but I just checked the weather for my weekend and its 58 degrees. Which is this weekend! Sigh.

I am not sure. It would have been through my tent rental company. I chose not to order them. But I just checked the weather report and its 58 degrees for my wedding, which is this weekend. Sigh.
