Should I incorporate my traditional Algerian dress into my wedding?

CallMeMrsCaldwell;), on January 30, 2014 at 9:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hey guys! Below I posted a picture of an Algerian dress that my father brought me back from his recent trip. My dad is from a big family of 9 and is the only one who has ever be able to come to the states. That being said, the Algerian culture is something very near and dear to him (and myself). In Algeria the women generally change dresses 5 or 6 times throughout the course of the night. I know my dads sisters spent major money on this gown and hope that I will wear it on our wedding day but I am soooo confused. I think the dress is beautiful but I don't know how to incorporate it. I am in LOVE with my wedding gown and will for sure be wearing that for the ceremony. What do you guys think about me wearing the Algerian dress? Should I? At what point in the evening should I? I know it would mean the world to my dad but I can't deny my nervousness. With a room full of Americans I don't want to feel out of place or for them to be confused. Any tips or guidance would be oh so helpful!

I am wearing my grandma's lace dress for the ceremony and then changing into the dress of FH's choice for the reception.

I think it'd be wonderful to marry in it for the family (the americans will surely figure it quickly that it's a cultural thing) and then have the dress of YOUR choice for the reception.

    I think it's beautiful.

It's so beautiful! If you don't want to wear it, I will!

Ask your father how he would like you to incorporate it into the wedding. Maybe you can wear it in the father daughter dance? And dance w him like no one is watching. It's so beautiful! You have to wear it!!!

I think this gown is beautiful... Maybe change into it for your father and daughter dance. Let the d.j. announce that you are wearing a traditional gown from your father's homeland. Just a thought... however you decide, I think its beautiful on you.

At my brother's wedding, my sister-in-law wore a traditional American white wedding gown, and then, at some point during the reception (after dinner), changed into a traditional Chinese red wedding gown (changed her hair ornaments to match). It was a lovely nod to her culture and her mother loved it.

I love yalls ideas! But heres the issue now... I won't be doing a father daughter dance (smh). Dancing is not his thing and I think religiously he doesn't want to do that. (My dad is very muslim). Maybe I put it on for dinner. Then put my dress back on for cake cutting and the exit...??? Would that work. My dress and this dress are pretty easy to get on an off?

Yes totally! If you are worried about others not understanding the dress...then make an entrance in it and let the Dj announce it. Im glad you are going to wear it, because its stunning on you.

That dress is beautiful and so special for you and your Dad. I like the idea of wearing it for dinner and dancing, or changing into it at the end and wearing it for your send off?

I am sooo glad you guys like it! I love it and it brought me to tears when my dad brought it back with matching jewels and even a clutch. I know my aunts spent hours in the village trying to find the perfect dress for me. I think my dad will be absolutely honored to see me in this dress. Thanks again! Smiley smile
