Should I get a reception dress?

Isadora, on October 19, 2014 at 6:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I am now starting to debate whether or not to get a reception dress. I love my current wedding dress, but I really plan to dance the night away and wish I could wear a more freeing dress for the reception. I'd probably wear it all the way through dinner, but it still makes me feel a little bit guilty. I have a picture of my current dress. I only paid $300 so it makes me feel a little less guilty if I did buy another. Do any of you guys have a similar dress that worked fine for dancing or do you think it would be too difficult to dance in it?

I have a reception dress that I will change into right after the first dance and father/daughter dance. My wedding dress is gorgeous, but pretty heavy. I wanted something light and easy for dancing all night. My wedding dress cost $800 and the reception dress cost $450. My mom gave me a budget of $1500, so I stayed under that even with 2 dresses.

My dress is very heavy and I too thought about getting a reception dress. However, given that I would need help getting out of my dress and help getting into another one I decided against it. I do not want to take any time away from my reception changing into another dress.

I'm sticking it out and wearing my dress the whole time. I love my dress, why would I want to change just because it's a little uncomfortable. I'm getting my money's worth!

My dress is a similar shape to yours, and I plan on dancing my ass off in it. I adore my dress, I wouldn't want to change out of it!

My wedding dress weighed a ton, and was a bit too long (the satin stretched out, and I missed the second alteration, so.....) but still, you could NOT have gotten me out of it-- I picked up and danced the night away. Of course, for me 'danced the night away' was really just a few hours-- my wedding started around noon and was over by 5, even factoring in a super-short ceremony, there were probably only 3 or 4 hours of dancing.

I guess I'd go for something you could conceivably wear again for your 'reception dress' as opposed to another 'obviously wedding dress' choice. But it's really up to you.

I had a reception dress and I loved changing into it because it was lighter, cooler and shorter. I loved my wedding gown but it was heavily beaded so it weighed a ton and it wasn't very comfortable. DH changed out of his suit at the reception- he wanted to be comfortable as well.

You should do what you want. If you have the extra money for it- totally do it!

I haven't purchased my dress yet, but will be wearing a princess gown. The dresses I tried on were heavy, so I decided early on to purchase a reception dress.

I say look around and see if you find one you like! If you're already considering it you will probably want to do it. I knew from day 1 I wasn't taking my dress off.

I changed into this fiery red number after our first dances. I wore this dress earlier in the day for our Chinese Tea Ceremony.. not really a dress I could wear out again, unless I wanted to be in a parade for the Hunger Games. hah! ps: I requested the DJ to play Alicia Key's "Girl On Fire" when I entered the room with this on hahaha. We had fun with it!

I will be having a reception dress. My FI is indian so I will be getting married in a sari which I love and I'm so happy to be incorporating his culture in our big day but my whole life I envisioned myself in a white wedding dress and I know my side of the family did too, so I will be changing into. If you can afford two dresses I say go for it! and if you are feeling guilty chose a dress that can be worn again. Best of luck to you!
