Should Bride Change her Dress after ceremony?

tiffany, on September 23, 2014 at 4:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 40

Hello Hello!

So ladies I'm in need of your opinion. I'm having a discussion with my bridesmaids on weather or not I should change my dress after the ceremony and get into something a bit more comfy for the reception.. what do you ladies think?

I plan to wear my wedding dress the entire evening, including during the reception. I mean, when am I going to get to wear it again? I'd sleep in my wedding dress if I could!

I agree with Melody, I will be wearing my dress the entire evening. I love my dress so I want to keep it on as long as possible Smiley smile

I plan on wearing my real dress for everything important. But after all of the major reception events like first dance, cake cutting, etc I will be changing into a short dress to party and dance in Smiley smile

If you want to? Sure, go for it.

Am I? No way. I'm spending too much money on my dress to change out of it and into another dress for my wedding.

It's your choice, but I am wearing mine the whole day. I love my dress and I'm never going to get to wear it again so I want to wear it as much as I can. I'd wear it the day after if I could.

This is just my opinion but i really cannot fathom spending xxxxxx for a dress and then only wearing it to the ceremony.

if being comfortable at the reception is a priority, buy a dress that you are comfortable in and skip the fuss Smiley smile

I think it is a waste. You spend so much money on a wedding dress and you'll never wear it again. I wore my wedding dress the entire day and was comfortable in it. I wanted to get my full money's worth.

I plan to wear my dress as long as possible. I personally think it's silly to go through the stress and money to find the dress to just take it off right away.

I plan to change into a short dress right before we leave in our chauffeured classic GTO convertible......they are taking us to the local casino/hotel where we will stay the evening and have a little after party with our closest friends and I don't want my dress to stink like smoke.

One of my coworkers took her dress off at the wedding to be more comfortable because it was a super hot day. She has regretted it ever since (and this was over 20 years ago). She just kept telling me, do NOT take your dress off for any reason! I didn't and I loved partying in it.

I'm changing my dress after the first dance and everything special. I plan to do a dance medley with my cousin and I'm changing to another dress right before that. After our dance it's sort of the signal for guests to start partying! My dress is just way too much for me to dance and I doubt it will bustle well.

If i pay all this money for my dress, i am wearing it. Why change? i don't get it. People will be taking pictures of you the whole night. I get to wear my dress twice. Once at my destination wedding and then again when i get home for our reception so everyone can see me in it. I am not wasting more money on another dress, i paid enough for mine and its the only time i am ever going to wear it. You spend all this time looking for the perfect dress, you find it and then you only want to wear it for an hour? sounds crazy to me...

There's no right or wrong answer... some girls are really attached to their dress and don't want another one, some have cultural reasons to change multiple times, and other girls like His#1Lady just are having a lot of fun with it and budgeted for two dresses.

I explicitly chose my dress with the idea in mind that I would need to wear it for a loooong time, some of that time in a non-air-conditioned barn the first week in June. I also am not getting a train on it for the same reason - less fabric to trail, and no bustle to add weight and trap heat. Doesn't sound very romantic, but I still love my dress - it's just that I wanted to get as much wear out of it as possible, and that means making sure it's comfy to sit in, dance in, and won't fall down (I added straps). I ruled out an incredibly beautiful, fun, super-poufy ballgown I loved because sweat was rolling down my legs in the 10 minutes I had it on in the store, so I knew it was a non-starter!

My dress is being custom made and I'm paying a grip, but still will change into a reception dress halfway into the evening that's more comfy and better for dancing the night away!

And yall act like just because you're wearing it for a more hours than someone who's changing that you're somehow getting more bang for you buck LOL! That's silly thinking. You're in it for one night like the rest of us brides!

@His#1Lady - Your dress is GORGEOUS!!!

I'm not changing dresses. Mine is comfortable enough to dance in and I love it too much to take it off. Who knows, after the wedding, I might just wear it around the house from time to time Smiley smile

The only thing I am changing after the ceremony and first dances are my SHOES... I love my dress and have no reason to wear it again so I will keep it on for as long as I can. :-)

Just seems silly to me to pay for two dresses for one night....I mean it's bad enough you only have one day to wear one dress, but two? I just don't see the logic.

    Thanks @calamity

BTW I'm most likely selling both dresses after the wedding anyway, also my best friend paid for half of my dress, veil, and sash, so I'm only responsible for half which cut my budget a heck of a lot!
