Short bride with taller bridal party??

Diana, on April 13, 2015 at 2:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

I am short! 4'11" and with my wedding heels I will be around 5'3" to 5'4". All 6 of my BMs are at least 2 inches taller than me. Since they will be wearing floor length dresses I don't care what shoes they wear as long as it's nude/beige colored. Will our photos look weird? I don't want pics of everyone squatting or bending down to my height. I totally embrace my height but I'm a tad envious of seeing all these bridal party photos that look so uniform and even...

Your photographer will know how to handle this with no problem! If it's something you're worried about, mention it to the photographer ahead of time, and they'll pay particular attention to using your height to your advantage. It's probably unrealistic to expect that everyone will look like they're exactly the same height, but this definitely won't be an issue.

Also, if you feel strongly about it, you can ask them to wear flats. As a bridesmaid I would be allllll about that. (Especially since normally the request goes the other direction.) I'd approach it by talking to them one at a time individually instead of sending a blast email. "Hey friend, this is kind of silly. I'm totally fine with you wearing whatever shoes you want with your bridesmaid dress, but I would be super grateful if you'd consider flats instead of heels." Then it's a conversation between friends instead of a less personal bride to group of bridesmaids interaction.

I am somewhat in the same boat, I will have my moh who is 6' the next bm I'd almost same height, next 5'4 , lol and next is 5'. I am 5'6. Your pictures well be fine and you can make them fun to. It's all in photography style you want.If you are wanting the traditional style talk to your girls about it but if you are going for the more photo journalist style the height difference won't be as noticeable anyways.

Here's a weird picture of a picture from my cousin's wedding. She's shorter than her whole bridal party, and it looked fine. We all wore heels.

I agree with MS4...if you feel that strongly about it, ask them to wear flats. But honestly, I don't think it's a huge deal.

I'm asking our girls to wear flats because of safety reasons. It will be outdoors in grass and I don't want any one to trip. I'm 5'3" without heels. I need to wear 2" heels so I don't have to have my dress altered. I'll probably wear thick heeled boots under my dress. My fw is only 5' and wearing flat custom converse. My moh/twin is same height as me. My jr bm is about 5'5. Fw's Moh/sister is 5'3. Her jr bm is about 5'.

I'm 5' and am not wearing heels (I'm wearing custom made Converse shoes) and I told my bridal party to wear whatever type of silver sandals they want. I would say my bridal party ranges from 5'4" to 5'10" so everyone will be quite a bit taller, especially if they choose heels. I couldn't care less and don't think pics will look weird. I'm use to being the shortest in pics, so I figure this will be no different.

In my opinion it does look weird. For my sisters wedding all of the bridesmaids and my sister were short (we're all like 5 ft) and her SIL was 5'10". It looked really weird in pictures lol. I know the height difference isn't as drastic in your case, but I would see if they'd be willing to wear flats. It's a win-win situation. They'll be comfortable and you won't look too short lol

I'm with you girl! I'm to only 4'10 and my bridal party ranges from 5'0 to 5'10. They'll all be in long dresses and I've asked they wear flat open toe shoes. Most already own sparkly sandals anyways. Besides me being short, a lot of our groomsmen are as well. Plus our ceremony is on grass and our pics will be on a mountain with a lot of gravel. My MOH (only 5'0") was the only one giving push back and if she wants to wear short heels or a little wedge, whatever then.

I'm the opposite--I'm 5'9-5'10 and other than my sister (who's 5'8) my other three girls are 5'5 and shorter. I've been friends with smaller women my whole life (bc I'm huge lol) and I think the pics will just look how we all are. I'm sure you and the girls will have gorgeous pics Smiley smile

Take my POV with a grain of salt but....

....who cares how it looks lol? I don't think it will look strange and I don't think you need to tell them to wear a specific type of shoe. It's a fact that your friends/family are taller than you. Your photographer will know how to place people the best way. But I think this isn't a big deal. I'm 6' tall and all of my bridesmaids were like 5'4". My own husband is shorter than me. It's a fact that I'm this tall....nothing anyone does in any pictures is going to change that lol.

I would mention it to your photographer, ahead of time, if it really worries you.

That being said. I don't think it will look strange. I am short and I love it. Some of my girls are tall and some are short. I won't be asking anyone to squat because I think that will look strange.

That was me! I'm *almost* 5'3" and I had my sister who's about the same height as me, a friend who's 5'6" and another who is 6' tall. It's no big deal.

I'm 4'9" MOH is 5'6" one BM is 5'4 and another is 5'10"...im wearing heals and even with they will all tower over me! I've asked the two tallest to wear flats or a small heals. My girls are wearing short dresses and one said she'd feel more comfortable in heals.. I'm really ok with it and am not worried about how it will look in pictures. Joking around FH said we should have a pic with the bridal party on their knees since everyone is so damn tall compared to us...after thinking about it we might actually do it! Lol

I am 5'2. I wore 1" heels. My bridesmaids were all 5'7 at least and wore heels. My pictures don't look weird at all.

I'm 5'7 and all of my bridesmaids are 5'2, it's just the way it is, no shoes are going to make me it any different, I would just accept it, and honestly do you normally look at pictures and think oh that looks terrible because we are different heights?
