SHOES... I don't want to be taller than him!

Bailey, on July 7, 2015 at 4:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I've had the toughest time trying to find shoes! Don't get me wrong I know I'm pretty picky, but I've found a handful that I like.. but all the heel heights are so tall. My FH is about 2 inches taller than me, and i want to keep it like that Smiley smile Last thing I want is to be taller than him, not sure why I'm particular about that, but hey, I just am.

Is anyone doing flats as their ceremony/reception shoes?? I need to find some shoes... and quick! My seamstress has been patiently waiting, and I'm going on week 3 of shoe hunting. Including every store in our mall, all the department stores, and online shopping. So is it okay to wear dressy flats?

Following because my FH is 1" taller than me and if I wear 4" heels, I am 6'2". It's a legit problem.

I found cute little one inch heels from David's Bridal for $25. Have you checked there?

@VenetianBride I've looked at David's Bridal, but none jumped out at me. My dress had a diamond belt so I was trying to find shoes with small diamond accents on the tops to match, but I guess that may be asking for too much :/ I was thinking I'll just have to go back and get whatever is closest and suck it up?

    @Ashley & Justin I feel ya!

Yes, it is ok to wear dressy flats. I am planning to wear flats as well. Assuming you have a long dress no one cause actually see you feet, so go with what you are comfortable in.

Yes it's totally ok to wear flats! Girl, I'm six feet tall. I am freaking six foot five in my favorite heels. I totally feel you.

I am just trying to avoid the "assume the squat position" during any and all photos with FH. For reals.

Try looking in less likely places! "Older" shoes can be just as cute but have a lower heel, most evening shoes will as well. And (if you have a long dress) only the toe is going to show anyways so keep that in mind. I ended up getting lower heels because we're trying to keep our height difference where it normally is and it was weird at first but now I love my shoes!

I know plenty of people who have worn flats for the same reason as you. Fortunately FH is 6" taller than me! Check out the Dessy Group site, they have a few, or Zappos. They have everything.

You're right@ RJmargo, Everyone keeps telling me that no one will see them, but then again I think in my head "but I know what they look like and I'm wearing them so they need to be cute" haha

Thanks @OriginalRandi, I use to be a huge heel wearer back in the day... but ever since I met the FH I tone it down to sandals and flats usually to avoid this whole taller than him situation

Lol exactly! Or the "hunched over to seem shorter" pose @Ashley & Justin We can't have any of that, esp on the wedding day where there will be plenty of pictures taken

Bellisimabridalshoes.com has a low heel section that has a lot of cute shoes. I found mine on there, but ended up ordering them from kate spade directly. They have a big range of prices, some cheaper going all the way up to way out of my price range!!

Flats are definitely ok, maybe look at dressy sandals as well?

Thanks!! I'll be sure to check out all the new recommendations Smiley smile Tomorrow.

I don't think I can look at another white bridal shoe today. Never did I think I would be exhausted from shoe shopping!

First of all, be confident! Many brides are taller than their grooms, especially in heels. Its not that unusual.

Also, men's dress shoes tend to have a bit of a heel so keep that in mind as well.

Don't know what your dress looks like, but maybe these would be an option. The heel is 1.5 inches, and they're under $50

I bought my shoes on zappos.com, 6pm.com is good too! Big selection, discounted prices, and quick shipping!

I recently bought these for my friend's wedding in silver and they might be good for you: http://www.amazon.com/Nina-Womens-Rivka-DOrsay-Pump/dp/B00NAY90NQ/ref=pd_sim_sbs_309_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1GFB7FV59W3KP6K7TA78

I'm so glad you asked this question! I have the same "problem". I've looked at David's shoes a zillion times so I definitely feel your pain! Your wedding is a day before mine so if you find some maybe I could "borrow" yours! Good Luck!

I would just look for a sparkly sandal. If it doesn't go between the toes, from the front it will look like an open toe heel just without the heel. I feel your pain. I'm 5'7 and FH *thinks* he's 5'10. I told him he needs some chunky dress shoes because the lowest heels I liked are 3.5".

I think wearing flats is perfectly fine, but heels give you a different walk and body shape that I just love. I'm almost 5'10 and so I want to find something with heels around 3-3.5 inches. It has really been difficult. I've found 2 pairs of shoes that I am in love with, but both of them had 4.5 inch heels. Anything 4 inches or more KILLS my back and is simply not worth the discomfort.
