Shoe Help!

Kari, on December 25, 2019 at 6:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5

I purchased my dress pre-owned off StillWhite and it's perfect except for the fact that the length is making finding the right height shoes difficult. I bought 2 1/2" heels, 2" heels, and flats with a subtle wedge footbed making them about 1" high and none quite work. I really need a block heel or wedge that is about 1.5" high, but they are super uncommon and the ones I found either don't look bridal or had awful reviews saying they were cheaply made and/or really uncomfortable. I'm willing to get plain ivory, blush, nude, or pale blue shoes and decorate them myself if I can find the right heel height that is comfortable.

The issue I keep running into is that listed heel heights aren't always an exact measurement, and most brands measure just the height of the heel itself and not any additional height provided by the depth of the footbed, unless it happens to have an open back. Also shoes with 1.5" heels tend to have skinny kitten heels and our ceremony is on grass, so I need something bulkier that won't sink into the ground. Ideally I'd love a neutral shoe with either lace or pearl embellishments, nothing shiny or blingy.

Is it hard because your dress needs to be hemmed?

I would find the shoes and then get the dress hemmed to work with those shoes. Don’t drive yourself crazy! 😜

No I could wear my dress with the flats I have if I wanted but I find flats to be really unsupportive and uncomfortable and think it would look better with a short heel. If anything I'd prefer my dress to be about 1-1 1/2 inches LONGER not shorter.

With flats it's "about" the right height, I just don't care for flats. I've unfortunately never found a pair of flats that are actually comfortable, and really wanted to wear short heels with my dress because they make me feel sexy and elegant. My dress is lace with a lining and large train, so it needs a stiffener to hang correctly and would be expensive to hem. In my experience hem lengths are never spot on accurate, so spending $100+ to have a tailor take 1/2 inch off so I can wear shoes that aren't supportive and hurt my feet is not an option.

I ordered two pairs of Jewel by Badgley Mischka shoes off of Nordstrom's today - both wedges one with a 1.5" heel and one with 1.75" heel - to try with my dress. I don't love them but they aren't horrible, and hopefully one of them will work!
