Shoe Dilemma!

Sarah L., on September 29, 2014 at 11:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

My wedding is going to be outside in the grass, but I love wearing heels! I really want to wear heels but I could just imagine the horror of a heel sinking into the grass as I am walking down the aisle. Many people are recommending wedges, but I have never been a fan. I can't find a pair at a decent price that I like, at least. I am afraid my bridesmaids are going to have the same problem, so I haven't picked out any shoes at all yet. 3 of 4 want to wear heels because they think they are too short. I don't really mind what they wear, as long as they are comfortable and happy (and it works with the overall look). Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I think I will just resort to flats if it comes to it, I just love heels too much!

I went with wedges for this reason. I did not want to face plant! And the reality is, no one really sees your shoes. I wore TOMS strappy wedges and had the matching flats. Mine were teal (my something blue) and my BM wore the burlap version of the strappy TOMS. My venue was grass and gravel and the aisle was brick. Wedges were great and much more comfortable to walk in! And the TOMS are about 4.5 in, so great added height.

Why can't you just wear Solemates or Grasswalkers on your high heels?

Jenn- I know I am so nervous to fall! haha. I will probably look into wedges more. I think I just needed to hear other opinions. Toms sound like a very cute idea! I think the more I try them on, the more I will get into the idea of wedges over heels. Smiley smile

Monica- I have never heard of either of those! haha. I will have to look into it!

I seldom wear heels anymore, but I have been to many an outdoor wedding where ladies were walking around in these and others were pulling their ruined shoe heel out of a hole or even taken off a shoe with a broken heel!

Just remember with the nerves and excitement of your wedding day you will not be walking as stable as normal lol. I didn't drink before hand and I was so shakey walking down the aisle! I was thankful for the support of the wedge Smiley winking I looked at the little plastic things that go over heels but am a little ocd and didn't like that you could see them in pictures and such.

I forgot about pictures! Thanks ladies! I am so glad I asked! I am now leaning towards wedges a little bit more. Haha

Wedges are also better for comfort, particularly if you're not used to wearing heels or have any back or ankle problems. You may find this site useful - http://www.bridalshoes.com/wedge

    Good luck!

Even if you wear heels all the time, one difference is that your dress will be hemmed to work with them, which means if you are feeling nerves and a bit wobbly on the grass, if you take them off you could be dragging 3"-4" of dress on the ground in front of you, which is also a problem!

But more than that, comfort is really key here because when your feet hurt, you keep thinking about that, and you do not want to be distracted by anything when you're enjoying your day!

I found these wedges by TouchUps - they are very inexpensive, but this brand has been reliable for me over the years as being comfortable enough to keep on through the reception, and if you ruin them on the grass, who cares?

http://www.6pm.com/touch-ups-mickey-white-satin - Zappos has a bunch of other options by this brand, including wide width options (you may want to check if any of your BMs have wide feet, before you choose a shoe, because she's going to be in the most pain!)

On the extreme other end, the most comfortable wedges i have ever worn are Jimmy Choo... granted, mine are nude color and a lower wedge, but Choo has a reputation for comfort that's deserved. Check department stores for styles not sold on JimmyChoo.com like the Baxen champagne glitter wedge

http://www.neimanmarcus.com/Jimmy ChooBaxen Glittered Wedge Pump/prod****___/p.prod?icid=&searchType=MAIN&rte=/brSearch.jsp?from=brSearch&request_type=search&search_type=keyword&q=jimmy choo wedge&eItemId=prod****&cmCat=search (The champagne glitter fabric is a staple of JimmyChoo over the years, being re-imagined into different styles, and it has the advantage of working with white, ivory AND champagne dresses. Juts google Jimmy Choo champagne glitter, and you'll get a bunch of other styles and options. P.S. - make sure you watch the video of the JC's - the photos make them look a bit dull or flat, but they're very sparkly, but in a classy, pretty way!)

I have used grasswalkers at outdoor weddings and they have really saved the day! I would most definitely recommend them if you do not have any interest in wedges.

I plan on wearing these things that stick to the heel of your shoe like Grasswalkers. I saw them for sale at the bridal shop I bought my dress at. Ask yours to see if they have anything like that.
