Shawls for Bridesmaids

Hannah, on May 19, 2018 at 7:17 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 30
Hello everyone! My FH and I are getting married this year in December and our ceremony will be held outside. It will be in the afternoon and we plan on having heat lamps as well as cute blankets for our guests. My wedding dress has sleeves so i will be okay. I had my bridesmaids pick their own dresses (all the same color, gray, but different styles) and they’ve all chosen sleeveless ones. I’m happy to purchase some type of shawl for them but I am unsure if I should get simple pashmina shawls or ones with faux fur? I want them to be warm during the ceremony too. Any ideas?

An outside wedding in December? Where? Any place that requires blankets for guests is too cold.

Have a backup plan in case of rain or snow.

The average high temperature on your date is 7 degrees. What made you think it was a good idea to have an outdoor wedding?I would get something with faux fur-something like this

I'm having a winter wedding too! I live in Wi but our ceremony is indoors. I'm getting my bridesmaids all pashima shawls but if yours is outdoors I would opt for something warmer.

Wow I was simply asking about shawls, no need for negativity. It will be in Albuquerque, NM and last year the average day time temp was 50°. Our ceremony will be under a covered terrace. Thanks for input.

Hello fellow Albuquerquean (im from there)! So many rude responses! I'd go for a shawl. I think the faux fur things are more for a certain vintage look and if that isn't you they look out of place and a shawl is definitely more likely to get worn again. You could also consider a light pretty cardigan. A neat crochet or knit shawl could be neat too vs say a pashmina look. Either way ABQ in December will be fine.

I bought these pashminas for my girls from etsy. They arent super thick but could help yours. They were affordable and i personalized the paper wrapper.

Yes I’m leaning towards the shawl as well. A cardigan could be pretty too! Thanks so much for your kind words 😊

I will be in a December wedding in Tennessee. Only our cocktail hour is outdoor and we purchased pashminas in an evergreen (one of the wedding colors) as a just-in-case. However, knowing our weather around here, it'll be 75

Achillea Large Soft Silky Pashmina Shawl Wrap Scarf in Solid Colors (Champagne) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MXVQ0CL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rtnaBbKAHB56X

I bought these theyre thin but look cute on and come in TONS of colors. Relatively inexpensive but if you have a larger party (I have 11) order a few at a time.

A reality check is not rude. When was the last time you went out in the middle of December and stood still in long dress with only a thin layer of cloth to keep you warm? I'll bet dollars to donuts that you would wear a jacket or coat on any other day of your life.

How pretty! Yea our ceremony is scheduled to be only 30 minutes so it won’t be long. I love the evergreen idea, that’s one of our colors too 😊

We're doing an outdoor December wedding too!

Don't let people get you down, your obviously thinking about your brides folk, just like we did, and every other December outdoor bride did. Heaters, blankets, the whole shebang. Not to mention getting married outside in a warmer climate! And I don't know about you, but I made sure my brides folk knew the plan, they are all thrilled by my outdoor ceremony, AND my December date.

We're doing fur trimmed cloaks for our party, I ordered them off Etsy, a little pricy but totally worth it in my mind. https://www.etsy.com/shop/capeandcrown13?ref=l2-shopheader-name

The way you phrased it was Rude.

A reality check is sometimes people only want advice on the actual question they're asking, not your unsolicited advice on their wedding.

If its a shawl make sure its thick and warm. or a BM dress with sleeves/ thicker material?

I was a brides maid in a December wedding, bride went with strapless dress for the BM and she had this white faux fur shall. the wedding was outside. all the pictures we look like popsicles, and one of the girls got sick and left after the ceremony.

make sure to dress them warm, 50* is too cold still.

What about something like this? In also having a December wedding, although mibe is indoors. But the church and reception venues are neighbouring facilities, so most likely everyone will walk between the two, so I wanted something warmer for my bridesmaids and flower girls. I also had a friend get married in January in Michigan, and had shrugs in a similar style also it was thicker and warner, like faux fur.
