Sharing photos with vendors?

MrsMJF, on October 15, 2018 at 2:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 6
Newly wed and new to posting, so please forgive me if I make any faux pas!

We just got our photos from the photographer and he specifically told us that he was taking detail shots that we can give to our vendors. (So we definitely have permission and will make sure our vendors know to credit the photographer. He’s also already posted some on his blog and tagged our vendors there too). We definitely want to share photos with them but I’m a little perplexed with the “how”. I wanted to see how any of you were able to do it?

I definitely don’t want to share my entire gallery high res photos (not to mention the sheer digital size of the files). Should I give out the link to the lower res photos of all of them? That option feels a little like we lose quite a bit of privacy, but gives them the Mose flexibility and me the least amount of work.

Should i I take time to pick out specific photos to send to each vendor? Create separate albums hosted online that they can look at? That may make sense for the florist or cake bakery but what about wedding planner and other vendors that take a variety of shots?

Maybe i’m overthinking it but wanted to see what others have done! I really couldn’t find much online coming from a “client” perspective rather than from the photographer’s. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences or your plans! TIA!

I would just send them each an email thanking them for the work they did and attach any relevant pictures

I completely agree; that makes the most sense.

This is what I did. I chose less than a handful of pictures for each vendor so it was a pretty quick process.

Agreed. We got our engagement photos at a coffee shop which let us do the shoot after hours so we thanked them and sent them a few good ones that featured us and the store to use for marketing and they were super happy!

Do not do anything that gives them access to a bunch of stuff, and blanket permission to use it. Or it may get resold by the vendor at some later point, and you will find your pictures on things you never wanted. E mail, one vendor at a time, just the very few you want them to have. And make sure there is a statement that they may display these only on their business premises, or website, but they are not authorized to send or sell the images to anyone else for any purpose, as you retain all property rights to your photos. Then they won't turn up in other things all over the web, and be used for other purposes. Many vendors sell any pictures they get their hands on, like stores do mailing and personal information lists.
