Sharing a bathroom with SO

So I'll warn you in advance this is TMI, but I've been wondering about how other people deal with this. I hate pooping when DH is around! So I'll warn you in advance this is TMI, but I've been wondering about how other people deal with this. I hate pooping when DH is around! It's always embarrassed me but it's gotten worse lately because we're doing renovations and only one bathroom is functional. Everyone poops, I know, but I'm still embarrassed by it, I think mostly because I tend to really stink it up when I go #2. DH isn't shy about it when he goes, but you can barely even tell he's used the bathroom. With me, on the other hand, there is NO way to hide what happened in there. For a long time I tried to avoid going when he was around, but recently gave up. Instead I just leave the fan on and keep the door shut for awhile after I finish to try and give him the message not to go in there. Once he didn't trust the warning and went in there, and immediately came running back out. How embarrassing, right?

So, I just thought I'd ask if anyone else is a big stinker like me, and if so, how you deal with it around your SO?

@FutureMrsAF that is hilarious! I have my own bathroom right now with my squatty potty. I haven't ever had a fan in a bathroom until I moved in with him, so I forget to turn it on. He can normally tell when we walks by that I'm pooing so he reaches in and turns the fan on for me. FH poops in the basement bathroom.

It's definitely a non-issue for us now. I think he pooped at my place like 2 weeks in, so he's never been shy about it. I still avoided it when I could though. Well 8 months in, and about 2 months after him moving in, we went to Mexico with his family. We had a great hotel room, super modern (meaning a swinging glass bathroom door..) not very sound ,or smell, proof. Day 3 we both started getting sick. Day 5 was the worst, and it still lingered for weeks after getting home. After that, we are not the least bit shy about it anymore.

Also, I've heard good things about the poo- pouri but haven't tried it. FH gets pretty smelly sometimes, so after seeing all of these success stories I might have to finally pick some up! Haha

I used to be embarrassed but once he finds out after the first time, I don't care at all any more. It's just something you are gonna have to deal with and so is he.

    TMI Alert:

I have IBS, if you don't know that is irritable bowel syndrome. This makes it hard sometimes to make it to a toilet and I have crapped myself in public once because of it. It was extremely hard to explain to FH at first but now he is super supportive and does not judge at all. We are very open people, so there isn't usually much privacy when going #2 anyway.

I pooped for the first time around FH after 3 years together, 1.5 living together. I still have a hard time pooping around him after 5 years and sometimes will stop at my moms on my way home from work to do it (it's on the way).

He, on the other hand... everyday when he gets home from work he gives me a kiss and says "imma go poop" as if I don't already know why he's going to be in the bathroom for half hour.

ETA I rarely poop more than once or twice a week, so when I actually go at home I come out and throw my hands in the air and say "I went!" And he applauds and is usually excited for me lol

@Aurora - it might be normal to be shy, but it's not normal to the extent OP is talking about. That's why I mentioned talking to a therapist.

No one is talking about having sex in the bathroom after someone craps. So, if you can't keep romance alive in your relationship because of a normal biological function, you might need therapy too.

I'm reading these comments and hoping that some of you don't get pregnant. Your body makes gas like there's no tomorrow. You are also rushing to the bathroom for various reasons at various times depending on your trimester. If the smell bothers you, get some air freshener, but for the love of all that is holy, it's a normal body function, get over it.

Tiffany, you should be pooping 3+ times A DAY. Twice a week and you should go to the doctor.

Thank you Chivy! I was just about to say the same thing. You should go poop way more than twice a week!

I used to be this way.. especially with gas. I would hold it in and boy oh boy would it hurt. That was when we first started dating. Now, I spray when I'm done and tell him not to go in there bc something died in my butt lol. He learned the hard way to take my warning seriously lol

So, normal poop schedules can vary from three times a day to once every three days. Both Chivy and Tiffany are on opposite extremes of normal.

@Aurora Lol Farting and Coughing/Sneezing is not a weird comparison at all. I fart when I cough or sneeze. In fact, that happened the first night my FH spent at my house.

Kitty, you should poop out your meal 6-8 after eating. Once every 3 days is never healthy or normal. My aunt's friend was pooping 2 times a week and found out she had colon cancer. She died 2 weeks later.

Chivy, some people poop less than others. It doesn't mean they have a problem. It depends on how much you eat too. I generally go once a day.

    Kitty is correct:

Miami, once a day is still more than 2-3 times a week.

I DGAF after only a couple months into dating. In fact, I told him on our second date that I have UC. If someone's going to be with me, then they have to understand that about me; like why I would sometimes need to suddenly get up and run like a bat out of hell to the bathroom and why I might feel sick half the time. Since I've told him, he has gone through the worst with me and has taken great care of me when I needed it. This is a medical condition that can sometimes cause me to have to leave a shopping trip early because I couldn't make it to the bathroom in time, so I almost don't wanna hear about being embarrassed to go in front of their spouses, or what is "unfeminine."

We're married and we live together. Neither one of us is embarrassed or secretive about our bathroom visits. I can understand if someone is just embarrassed or private about it in general, but if it's just embarrassment in front of a spouse, then I think it's a little weird. The fact that I don't hide it is one of the many ways I can completely be my self around him, and that's what makes us perfect for each other.

@OP. Try Devrom. You may need to order it online. It's a pill that helps your poop be less stinky when taken regularly. My doctor recommended it but it's otc.
