Share your vows before the wedding day?

Bolt2020, on June 8, 2019 at 2:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16
My Fiance and I are writing our own vows for our wedding next year. Should we share what we have written when the day gets closer so we are both on the same page? Thanks!!

I personally love the surprise of reading them on the day of! Of course, it all depends if you and FH want to share your vows beforehand Smiley smile

I agree, I doing want him hearing them until day of. Another option is you can both share them with 1 person you trust so they can say whether or not they have the same tone.

I’m also another one for wanting to wait until the day. However FH has revealed a line to me from his vows and I also revealed a line from mine which I think made us even more excited about hearing them the day of. I think it’s a personal choice you and FH should decide.

Our officiant is going to read over both of our vows when we're about a month out to make sure they are similar (don't want want to be all jokes and the other to be super serious). We're not sharing with one another until the moment we make them!

We read ours to each other privately the night before. It was so special and emotional, and then we held it together during the ceremony much better!

Haha that's smart. Although, as a guest, I always find it do endearing when a couple starts choking up and stuff while reading their vows. It gets me everytime and I start tearing up!

We totally still choked up, it’s still different when you’re dressed up in everything and in the moment. But we choked up, just didn’t fall apart.

I would say no! Reading our vows to each other at our ceremony was probably the most amazing and wonderful part of the day, and I don't think it would've been as powerful had we known what the other person was going to say!

We did discuss certain aspects in advance though... like, we decided we were definitely going to be more serious, with a funny thing or two thrown in but it would be 99% serious and sentimental. And we discussed how long they would be, and what percentage would be like an intro and what percentage would be actual promises. This helped make sure we were both on the same page! We also had my brother read both of ours to confirm that they worked well together.

I really like the idea of having a 3rd party read them for you and give you feedback.

My BFF recommended strongly that we read our vows to each other prior because on the big day everything happens so quickly that we may not really remember or take in what is being said. I think she has a good point - I can't remember what he said when he proposed!

I joke with mine about editing his ahah but in all honesty I think vows would be nicer heard on day of. It's just another thing to look forward to

We decided to share them both with one friend so she could make sure we were both on the same page. Hearing them for the first time at the altar is the best part of the day (in my opinion) but if you feel you want to see them first then go for it.
