Setting up a designated smoking area?

HowCo Industries, on March 11, 2018 at 10:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
We're having our reception at a park shelter and I'm really excited! We'll need a lot of rentals and I'm thinking about what I'll need setup where.
A few years ago I was at an engagement party where they had set up a lovely smoking area away from the rest of the party but it didn't make the smokers feel unwanted or isolated.
We're likely to have no more than 3 or 4 smokers at most. One of whom I know to be very contentious and will look for a designated smoking area, and one I know will think he can smoke anywhere until directed otherwise.
Is anyone doing this? Any suggestions?

If you think your guests will try to smoke elsewhere without it, I would say definitely do it. It will make it easier on you and the guests to have it that way.

I’m doing this! I was just going to put up a sign and make it a little lounge area with some benches, maybe a table to set drinks on and an ash tray.

I think this is a great idea if you can afford it. It’s one of those things that would be fine to skip, but an added bonus if you do. If for no other reason, providing ashtrays would insure that cigarettes aren’t be littered around the park. A little table with two chairs should suffice.

I’m doing this too. I HATE smoke and would go nuts if my wedding smelled like smoke all day. I’ve tasked my chain smoking handyman friend to make a smoking area sign and his mom makes terra-cotta smokeless ashtray things. They said they want a table and chairs over there too. I didn’t want to make it too comfortable because it would just become the hangout spot but I guess a couple would be fine.

I know, right? You can't smoke anywhere, but a rule of thumb would be if you can drink there, you cab smoke there.

I never even thought of this. Holy crap. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm allergic to marijuana smoke so we definitely need to make it clear that can't be smoked anywhere near the venue entrance, and I don't want cigarette smoke clinging either.

I hadn't even thought about smoking other things. We have way more than 3 or 4 smokers
