Serving size help

Miranda, on February 21, 2022 at 9:38 AM Posted in Planning 9 14
We are doing little slider sandwiches and pinwheels for our wedding since it is an early afternoon wedding. I'm trying to figure out about how many I would need for each person if anyone can help. We are in total going to have 31 people (that's including me my fiance and our son). We are planning to have the ceremony start about 12:30-1 and we know everyone won't be here long since it is thunder over Louisville that day and many of our guest have plans to go watch the fire works.(just adding that in incase that helps with figuring it out since many will be going to cook outs and what not after our wedding)

Your wedding is still smack dab in the middle of lunch time, so I would expect people would eat a full lunch serving.

I guess a serving would be 3 pinwheels and 1 slider, so 93 and 31. Maybe round that up to 100 pinwheels and 40 sliders. Are you also having chips and veggies/fruit? Cake? I think that would make a nice light meal.

I would err on the side of caution and plan 4 pinwheels and 2 sliders per adult. I would also, since you're definitely in the middle of lunchtime, have pasta salad (not a mayo dressing lol), some fruit or a fruit salad, and chips, as well as dessert. Are you having alcohol? If you are, you *definitely* need to plan to have enough for people to eat more.

We are not doing alcohol we don't drink and we don't want our guests drinking when we know most of them are going to different parties and cookouts afterwards to kick off the derby

So just out of curiosity then you would eat a full lunch at this even if right afterwards you would be going to another event?

Yes, I would more likely eat at your wedding and then maybe graze a bit at the cookout since your wedding is when I would be hungry.

Then how many of the sandwiches each would you believe would be right for a person. Because I am not changing my menu to serve a full meal. As stated in other comments we will have veggie trays fruit trays chips and cake. I have never been to a wedding at this time of day that serves a full meal.

So, then I would go with 4 pinwheels and 2 sliders per person. People are going to be hungry at your wedding. If your ceremony starts at 1, then people are going to be arriving 15-30 minutes ahead of time, and they will have had to drive to your venue (I assume plan 30 minutes, since it's a high traffic weekend. Before that they were getting ready, so they probably haven't eaten since breakfast.

I would do 3-4 pinwheels and 2-3 sliders per person depending on how big the sliders are.

Thank you. Im thinking that now too since you and Becky believe that would be the right amount. The sliders we are having would probably be on a buns a little bigger than what a dinner roll sized.

I would go with other people's suggestions of 3-4 pinwheels and 2 sliders per person. That plus the sides would equal a full lunch. I don't think you need to serve a full plated dinner or something, but make sure you have enough food for people to have a full lunch (i.e. equivalent of a whole sandwich and some chips).

Alright thank you. We are definitely doing what I said above and are debating on doing potato salad or something long those line for people who might not want the other options to go with the sandwhiches
