Serving ice cream during the reception

Alexa, on November 18, 2020 at 11:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 12

I am obsessed with ice cream and want to serve it during the reception but am trying to figure out the best way to go about this. Would it be to talk with my cater and see if they can help and have them serve it? Or should I get an ice cream truck to come to the venue? Has anyone ever done this before, what did you do?

If it's affordable then I would recommend the ice cream truck.

You can look into both options and then see which system you prefer. My SIL is planning to have ice cream at their reception, and they got a specific vendor for that.

We did this for our afterparty! I looked into different ice cream companies that did events. We ended up hiring an ice cream truck (he even came dressed in the old school ice cream man uniform and played music when he drove up to the restaurant/lounge’s front door. It was just the good humor ice cream bars, but lots of different options to choose from! It was $500 and we had so much ice cream leftover even though some of our guests got 2-3 ice cream bars.

This is such a fun idea! I think an ice cream truck would probably be the easiest.

Your options might be limited by constraints of your venue and/or caterer. We have friends who had a fairly formal wedding at a beautiful country club-type venue. They wanted ice cream sundaes rather than a wedding cake. Their caterer handled the whole thing; they scooped chocolate and/or vanilla ice cream for each guest and then the guests could add their own toppings. With Covid regulations it probably wouldn't be possible/wise to have guests handling all the topping buffet items these days, but it worked well for them to have the caterer manage the whole thing. Good luck!

Def. look into both options and compare prices! I would love to attend a wedding with an ice cream truck though! It sounds so fun and unique!

I def. am trying to lean towards the truck option but the downside might be since my venue is kind of in the middle of nowhere then maybe they won't drive out there.

That could make or break the truck option. I hope you can find one that will drive out there! If not, you still have the caterer option as a backup!

My brother and sister-in-law had Ben & Jerry's served at their wedding and it was a HUGE hit. You pick a couple of flavors and they come out with a little cart and serve it to guests. My brother is a Mets fan and my sister-in-law is a Yankees fan so they had the baseball hat cups you get at stadiums to serve it in!

I've seen this done a few ways!

i saw one of my friends literally just buy popsicles and put them in a cooler. i've also seen someone do it with a vendor.

best thing would be to talk to your caterers and venue to see if they'd be ok with serving it

I was at a wedding that had ice cream at the reception and they had a small ice cream/gelato cart with an ice cream man that would scoop you the flavors you requested. It was super cute!
