Serious question... should i hold back at my wedding or act a fool lol

Valerie, on April 5, 2021 at 10:26 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
This may be a strange question but it’s been on my mind lately since our postponed reception is coming up. I’m an introvert by nature by as soon as I hit the dance floor with a little bit of liquid courage I’m like a different person. I become very animated and just make faces and bust dance moves I have no business busting (lol). I worked very hard to plan a very elegant wedding. It will be heavily photographed and filmed. I’m not sure if I should hold back and try to remain classy for most of the night and smile and not get too worked up dancing and just try to pace myself or if I should just be myself and act a fool. I have been known to start screaming from across the dance hall when a song I like comes up and I RUN to the dance floor and start looking around for hubby my dance partner and I swear I scream “I love this song” to every other song. Should I try it be graceful and classy and tasteful so as to not regret in future looking crazy haha or should I let loose or a bit of both? I don’t want to appear uptight at my own wedding.

Your photographer won't stay for the whole reception, and neither will some of your older or more distant guests. Let loose and have a great ending to the night!

If I was in your shoes, I would try to strike a balance. What is most consistent with your authentic self? Regardless of the source, professional or non-professional, any photos/videos will be around for a long time. How would you want your future kids to see you? How about your parents or any future business associates who might happen upon these photos? I think you can have a wonderful time, have a complete memory of all the evening’s events and not have to worry about any future regrets.

    DANCE, girl!

One of coolest photos I have is when DH twirled me, later in the night, because we were just busting moves.

(And, of course, it won't load.)

We had a spontaneous conga line, which ended up on film and in photos, which was also amazing.

If you can't have fun on your wedding day...

For the last two hours of the night, yes get rowdy! You deserve it! You’ve worked hard and you deserve to go out with a blast!

Have you had this conversation with the person you’re marrying? It’s their wedding too, and they might have a view 🙂. And how do they feel when you ‘act a fool’ on the dance floor - do they enjoy that crazy side of you or not? I don’t think someone else should dictate your behavior, but if I were in your (dancing) shoes, I’d want to take their views and feelings into account.

However, if they don’t have a preference, I’d say do whatever feels natural and enjoyable to you.

Have fun! I danced my booty off at our reception, which is something I never do. But it was MY party and I deserved to enjoy it. I would try and find a balance in the 2 behaviors, but there is no problem with letting loose and enjoying yourself. Too many times you hear of brides and grooms who didn’t enjoy their wedding.

You have the first part of the wedding - the ceremony and cocktail hour - to be graceful and refined and hold back.

If you want to stretch it, you can even do so up through dinner.

After that, it's a party. Party like you would any other party.

I'm similar! This is my personal plan; drink the types of liquid courage that I enjoy the drunk from, for me that's wine. I get goofy and fun. While I enjoy liquor and beer they are totally different types of drunk, so I'll only be drinking only wine. I also plan to pace myself and stay soberish for the pomp and circumstance of the reception; first dance, cake cutting etc. I'll have a glass or two prior to take the edge off, but not enough to really affect my behavior. We plan on doing that stuff early in the reception anyway because of the hours we have the photographer. After that I plan on having fun, for us it's the entire point of us having the wedding, we just want the party! I also know my limits with alcohol and how many glasses of wine will get to to what level of drunk, I have a cutoff for how much I'll be drinking and only bringing that much to the wedding as I want to be at a certain level and not beyond and have to be carried out lol.

Let loose and have fun, at whatever limits you decide for yourself.
