September wedding backup plans? Invitations?

Leonormorrow, on May 13, 2020 at 10:25 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 10
Hello all! Our wedding is still set for 9/20/20, but I am getting more worried that it might not happen. I think we will definitely still get married that day and postpone reception, maybe also have a vow renewal in 2021.

However I had already paid for my original invitations so I have them now. I was planning on sending out in mid June with a note saying to check our wedding website for changes due to COVID-19. We will make a final decision of whether to postpone by July.
If we do postpone I will post details on website and of course contact everyone individually too. But I don’t want to send another round of physical invitations. Do you think it would be ok to have guests rsvp for new date through website OR they can use original rsvp cards from invitations? Thanks!
Would love to hear any other suggestions for postponing and communicating with guests.

Id Say They Could Use Both, Whichever Is Easier For Them.

    Hi there,

Whatever is going to most convenient for you and your partner will be best. In times like these, I think your guests will be very understanding!

If you're planning to notify your guests via email or snail mail, there are some templates here: How to Word Your Wedding Postponement Announcement. You'll see one example for what to say if you haven't selected a new date yet.

Finally, here is a glass half-full perspective piece: “My Wedding Was Postponed Due to Covid-19, but Now I Get a ‘Do-Over’” (with a link to a video at the bottom).

I'm wishing you the best of luck! eJ9d5lyBiwA7naWKa4m_0E2whrAqnI3l-LneStau

Our wedding is set for 9.25 and I’m pretty much doing the same as you. I didn’t send Save the dates so I plan to send the invites a little earlier than usual, probably mid-June. I also am not doing physical RSVPs (trying to go green and save green LOL) so RSVPs will be on our wedding website so people will have no choice but to go to it at some point.

I’m including handwritten notes in all my invites (I planned on doing this anyway but now they’ll also include the “updates will go on the website” note) and if we have to postpone I will also reach out to everyone individually with an update on whatever our new plans are.
I think no matter how you handle it, the guests will be understanding. This is out of everyone’s control. Personally I would have them RSVP online or use the existing cards if necessary rather than pay for new ones.
I’m really thinking (and hoping!) that we will be okay by September!

My wedding is August 29, and I just ordered invitations 2 days ago, and I'm supposed to be receiving them today! (Ann's Bridal Bargains is super fast!). I was really torn on what to do, because I didn't want to order them, send them out, just for the wedding to be postponed.... But I figured I'd just do it now rather than later, because we won't know if we're postponed till at least early July! And if the wedding is on, we'll be rushing to get invitations out.

Instead of snail mail RSVPs (which is what I wanted to do), we're doing online RSVPs. That way, guests can wait till the super uber last day to RSVP, rather than having to go out and mailing something that'll take a day or two. The RSVP insert in the invitations is now customized to say to go to the website to RSVP, and should the reception be postponed, we'll honor the same entree selections at the later date. If not, they can contact us or email us (I set up a wedding-specific email) with any questions.
