Separate dress for reception??

Kristin , on April 30, 2018 at 3:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
Hi! I know some girls stay in their wedding dress during the reception and for the whole night while some change after the ceremony into another white dress before entering the reception.
What is the reasoning for this? Just to be more comfortable? I’m trying to decide if I should or not.
I have not went dress shopping yet. We’ve been engaged for a month now and our wedding is this November so I don’t expect it to be too hot (we’re in North Carolina). What made you decide to (or not to) get another dress to change into?

I loved my dress and it was comfortable and easy to move around in so I wore it for the whole night. I didn’t see spending the extra money on two dresses especially since I wasn’t planning on having a wedding to begin with.

Because it's awesome to have two dresses! Smiley laugh

You don't need one. We had a DW and a local reception. The reception was a 60s theme and I found the perfect dress on sale for that. For our DW, we had a pirate theme so DH & I actually changed into pirate outfits during cocktail hour and it rocked the house...er, I mean wine cave.

Honestly, if you love your dress just keep it on the whole night. You could also get a dress and a ball gown skirt (or detachable skirt) if you want two looks. I don't think a skirt would be that expensive.

I actually planned on a 2nd dress...but when I went in for my alterations fitting last week...I just didn't want to take my dress off. I loved it so much I couldn't imagine taking it off for the reception, so I actually changed my mind and decided "nevermind 2nd dress...I'll wear you another time".!

No way in hell was I changing out of my gorgeous wedding dress that I spent a few thousand on and will only be able to wear once in my whole life. I wanted every moment possible in my dress! I truly don't get the point of a reception dress.

I agree with this! I’ve never understood it. I guess unless you had two affordable dresses, or money is not an object, spending so much on something to only wear for an hour give or take confounds me.

I love my dress too much to want to change into something else! My whole vision for my dress was that it would be twirly and fun at the reception, so I shopped around that. Unless your budget allows you to get 2 fabulous dresses and you want to change, I wouldn't do it. I feel like the 2nd dress needs to be just as showstopping as the 1st dress. I've seen pictures of people who are changing into ordinary, plain (usually cheap) white dresses for the reception, and to me that takes away from the whole event.

I’ve always loved the idea of 2 dresses. I’m either going to get a big ball gown or a fitted mermaid dress. So I want to change into something more comfortable for the reception to be able to move around more freely in. Now with that said I defintley don’t plan on spending tons of money on the 2nd dress. I think that I will be able to find a cute dress at a decent price.

I did. I wanted a different style that’s less poofy for the reception.
