Sell/donate Wedding Dress!??

Kennyeh, on March 28, 2021 at 11:32 PM Posted in Married Life 0 11

Hi I got married August 18, 2018 and it has been a long time since I visited Wedding Wire. But, at this point in my life, my husband and I might be moving by the end of the year. So now I am wondering if I should sell or donate my dress! I am on the fence because I still think the dress is very unique and one of a kind. Plus my husband cried when he saw me walking down the aisle (he absolutely NEVER cries). I think it would be nice to surprise him by wearing it in the future, but who knows if it will still fit me?

I am thinking of getting rid of it because again, will this dress ever fit me again? When we move, we would have to downsize a bit and this dress is so wedding like that I couldn't wear it to an event as a normal dress.

I am open to hear opinions or experiences. Did you sell/donate your dress or keep it and why? (Dress: Allure Couture C388)

Thanks.

You look absolutely gorgeous. I personally would keep it because I’m a sentimental type even if I couldn’t fit it. I just bought a dress preserving kit from David’s Bridal for 99$ to keep it. I love those pics from your wedding it looks like a wonderful time , congratulations on your marriage ✨💖

Do you have, or expect to have, nieces or daughters? It is a beautiful dress, and a cut that could be altered a couple sizes down which means passing it down might be nice.

Unless you know for sure that you will be able to fit into it for a 10 or 20 yr vow renewal, I would donate the dress to an organization for disadvantaged brides. Your pictures are stunning, but you are right that you can't easily rewear the dress. https://charity.lovetoknow.com/charitable-donation-resources/how-donate-wedding-dress-meaningful-charity

I would try to sell it. If you want it sold before you move, try posting it for sale a few months prior. If you cant sell it, then I would donate it. But it depends on if you have made up ur mind to keep it or not. I personally will not be keeping mine. Im hoping to sell. I had a different wedding dress for our elopement and I haven’t had luck selling it. But its not as fancy, more of a formal white dress, but it hasnt sold and its been months.

Do you fit into your dress now? Its very unique and you look stunning in it!

A guy I used to work with
told me his wife puts on her wedding dress every year on their anniversary. I think they have dinner and dance to their song and make a date night of it every year. I think its the cutest thing and hoping I can do something similar with my husband.

I bought my dress pre-owned and paid a fraction of what it would have cost me to buy it new. If you bought your dress new, paid for alterations, etc the return you would get in it would likely be very low, but passing it on to another bride may have value in itself, knowing your dress gets to be worn, seen, and loved by others. I know I was so grateful to find my pre-owned dress at an affordable price.

    Gorgeous gown!

i personally had the same dilemma because my gown wasn't a wedding gown, it was a white evening gown that i could very well donate to a prom dress drive! and mine was inexpensive.

but i think if i had an actual wedding gown and it cost me a lot, i would try to sell it first

Keep it. You never know what may happen. There's a couple I follow on IG and the bride wore her gown again for a 10 year anniversary shoot.

Lookup a few cleaners that specialize in wedding dress preservation, or ask the bridal shop that you went to if they offer that service.

It is clear that you have a strong emotional attachment that needs to be honored. I say you keep the dress unless you have an emotional connection to the bride you are giving it to.

Even if you didn't fit into the dress 10 years or so down the line, remember that people can do amazing things with repurposing/restyling a wedding dress and using important elements like beading and appliques.

Hi, you will not believe this.

I have the same dress that I got married in last October and I am having the same issue.

Do I keep it, donate or sell?

You looked so beautiful and your husband cried I think you should keep it.

You look absolutely stunning on that dress.

I personally kept mine, even thou it does not fit me...maybe one day my daughter or niece want to use it
