I've heard good things about the Neutrogena gradual tanning line of products, but I've never personally tried it!

What Lori said. I've used it and it works well. I'm not a fan of self-tanners in general. My wedding is August so I will be outside most days leading up to that getting tan but I know that doesn't work well of your date.

I am very, very white and many of the more aggressive do-it-yourself tanners will give me that unfortunate pumkin-spice tone too.

I use Jergen's Natural Glow daily moisturizer for fair-medium skin tones in the summer. I have been happy with it. It takes a while to build color and you can control how much color you build up by adjusting how frequently you use it (ex: every day vs every other day).

You will also want to apply less to areas that tend to be more dry (elbows/knees/ankles) as color will build more quickly on drier skin. Also, make sure you moisturize your hands/palms really well with regular lotion first to avoid building color on your hands. ... But this is true for almost every self-tanning product I've ever used.

I agree with @Songbird. I have used Jergen's Natural Glow many times and really like it. Her tips are also great.

I recently got Bare Minerals Beautifully Bronzed Faux Tan and am really liking it so far. I'm not really fair skinned, but I think it would work great for fair skin as well. It's buildable, and doesn't seem orange at all. It's a gel, and goes on with a brush (basically you buff it in), so you see where you are applying. I've had no issues at all with streaking and the brush makes it awesome for hand/finger/feet application.

For reference, Jergens looked orange and streaky on me too. That stuff couldn't get off my body fast enough. I felt like I looked like a striped Oompa Loompa.

I'm also very fair skinned and tried EVERYTHING with no success (Jergens made me streaky too). The best I ever used was Body Drench Quick Tan. It had an instant bronzing layer that washed off but also had a buildable tan. What I liked best is that it smelled good and was brown based, not orange. I will say that it can be a little difficult to use on your own and when I used it I would have my best friend spray me down to get the most even results. I think they now make a lotion, at the time of use they only had an aerosol spray so that might make things easier. Eitherway that is the ONLY product/method of tanning I recommend despite having tried all the popular brands, airbrushed tanning, tanning beds, etc.

I'm a very fair redhead. I've used Jergens before, although it does sometimes get streaky. Have you tried spray tanning? I did that once and it turned out pretty well (but a little dark). I'd recommend trying it a couple times before your wedding to figure out what works best. The Tarte Brazilliance has great reviews--I found it on sale a week or so ago and ordered some but it hasn't arrived yet. It's very expensive for something like that though. Maybe see if you can get a sample first or try some at Sephora or Ulta before buying?

I JUST looked into this today. Just as a reference, here's a website. http://jenny10228.wix.com/healthyglow#!treatments/cee5 At her prices, I could do a trial and decide. Here was her information on orange results, fair skin, etc. from her website. Sorry it's long, but it explains everything. Smiley smile

"Will I Look Orange From A Healthy Glow Tan?

Never. The solution Healthy Glow uses is a simple sugar derived from sugarcane, sugar beets, and the fermentation of glycerin. The colorless 3-carbon sugar compound binds with the first layer of skin, the stratum corneum. These “dead “ skin cells lack a nucleus and organelles, and are thus unable to reproduce. However, the dead cells still contain keratin, an amino acid responsible for skin coloration.

When DHA chemically reacts with the keratin in the skin cells, there is a resulting darkening effect. These pigments, called melanoidins, range from yellow to brown, just like the natural melanin found within the skin’s layers.

The brown sugar base ensures golden brown color eliminating all possibilities of an orange tone.

What If I Have Very Fair Skin?

Our Healthy Glow signature solution will react naturally with each specific skin tone. Our airbrush technicians will custom blend a formulation specific to each client's natural base color. However, if it is your first time tanning, or you have an extremely fair complexion, we suggest choosing a lighter tone to ensure satisfaction. Very fair complexed individuals may require a follow up session 12-24 hours later."

I am very fair and so is my sister and bridesmaids. I got a spray tan for the wedding but they used "Fake Bake" you can get it at sephora or amazon, etc. And its great. You actually apply it with a like glove/mitt and it makes sure you'e not streaky! Smiley smile

Whatever you decide on using make sure you test it LONG before the wedding. You don't want to have any surprises Smiley smile

I'm fair skinned too and nothing works on me. Well at least not on my legs (I break out). So if you can make it work then more power to ya girl!

    Good luck!

Jergens is pretty good. I usually go for the medium on any self-tanning products even though I'm very fair. I find that medium tends to give more of a brown-bronze (i.e. more natural) tan. Fair always looks a bit orange to me.

I highly highly highly recommend St.Tropez self tanner, I believe it's sold at Sephora. And honestly for legs, the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs works amazing, it's literally like make-up on your legs & covers all imperfections. I actually used it all over my body in December for my birthday celebration.

Very pasty and a self tanner addict. The easiest ones I have ever used were St. Tropez mousse, expensive but good, I got the extra dark because I love not being pale, also Fake and Bake's flawless self tanning liquid (NOT THE QUICK DRY) the one that is for 8 hours.

Finally is this in general or for your wedding? If wedding I suggest finding an actual person that will spray you, not a booth. Seriously it goes so fast, your not sweating trying to awkwardly contort yourself and they use great products(ask what solution they use before). I am from Illinois and if I could I would fly back to get bodibronze tans for everything.

I am as pale as they come, and the best self tanner I have EVER used (believe it or not) is the one from Victorias Secret. The stuff is amazing, doesn't streak, looks so natural, and best of all, it doesn't smell!

I'm just going to troll over here and say that I'm pale and I'm just going to stay pale for my wedding and not care. It's my natural state, after all. Smiley laugh plus self tanning just seems like a pain. Good luck (:
