Self centered family members

Is anyone experiencing family or friends trying to plan their future wedding, instead of helping you plan yours? My sister is planning her future wedding when she’s not even engaged. Instead of giving me ideas. She’s thought of her bridal shower and wedding theme. Like umm.. I don’t think it works...

Instead of giving me ideas. She’s thought of her bridal shower and wedding theme. Like umm.. I don’t think it works like that.. I’m annoyed, but I’m not showing it. I mean everyone is entitled to think of their own future wedding, but she’s thinking of herself. Anyone going through this?

Unfortunately, no one will be as excited for your wedding except for you. I understand where you are coming from. My friend had been engaged for over a year, and I soon as I got engaged she decided to start planning for her own wedding. It is fine of course but sometimes jealousy has a part of it. Also, maybe seeing you plan got her excited for her future wedding. I had been pinning for my wedding way before I got engaged.

You don't think it works like what? Not having her own thoughts and just focusing on your wedding until it happens in two years? That's a little far-fetched to say that your family members are self-centered because they're not helping you plan your (keyword: YOUR) wedding or giving you ideas.

My mom has seriously asked me 5 times if one sister knows when the wedding is. Every time, "Yes ma'am. I told her right after you." Lol Family can be crazy enough, then you start to add extended family and friends too. Any major life event has the potential to get skewed. Marriage, birth, death... Everyone has their own take on it and because of everyone's own life path, and we're not always sensitive to other people and their feelings. Sometimes people are coming from a place that we just didn't realize, and sometimes they're just being jerks. It's hard to tell in the moment at times. But you know your sister better than we do. (PS-I have one sister who doesn't show she cares about any of us beyond what we can do for her, so I totally get both sides of this.)

Awe. I try to get my sister excited about mine by "planning" hers. It's my way of learning her style and what she likes

This is very true which is why I waited months to even share that I was engaged and getting married to people. My parents knew, but I kept it low key from others. Me and FH planned our own wedding for this very reason. I hope it works out for you and your sister.
