Help! I need Ideas. I am getting married October 2021. My 12 year old daughter does not want to wear a dress or the the color plum/purple. My son (15) is excited to wear a tux like his soon to be step dad.Any ideas please!

I would just ask your daughter what she wants to wear/what she'd be comfortable in.

There are a lot of good options. Does she want to wear a tux? A jumpsuit? Slacks and a nice top?

What about a jumper in a neutral color like gray, silver or black?

Thanks! I've asked and she doesn't really know except pants and has to have long sleeves. Any suggestions of where to take her to try on different options? I bought my wedding dress from David's Bridal and there wasn't much options for her taste.

I think looking into the places she usually likes to buy clothes and seeking out formalwear options, if they have any.

Maybe a local boutique would be good for a unique option. I'd even just do a google search for "formalwear girls pants" and see what kinds of brands pop up/what strikes her fancy. This could be a task you delegate specifically to her - I know I would have loved to search for and pick out my own formalwear outfit at 12.

You're welcome! It sounds like she is being very particular in what she wants. Is she self-conscious that she wants pants and long sleeves?

Yes, she has hit puberty hard and is very busty. I'm sure you can remember that age. I want her to be comfortable. Her usual attire consists of baggy shirts, sweat shirts and running shorts.

Yes, I do remember. Unfortunately her usual attire won't really work for a wedding though.

Let her wear what she is comfortable in as far as dressy clothes. Go to Dillards/Macy’s or Burlington and try on styles to see what she likes best. Unless she is a bridesmaid, she is not required to wear a dress or the wedding colors. There are lots of cute blouses that can be worn with dressy pants.

Thanks! We aren't doing bridesmaid/groomsmen. The kids will be presenting us with the rings so we do want them dressed up. I totally forgot about Burlingtons!

You can also use the words 'slacks' or 'girl's dress pants' when searching. A lot of big box stores carry black and grey dress pants in the juniors or girls sections (I know Kohls does for sure). Depending on her height and frame, the petite women's clothing may fit better since the inseam and torso measurements are shorter but still allow defined womanly curves.

She may also like a pantsuit type thing (a one piece) with a cardigan (or some kind of jacket). I remember being self-conscious when I hit puberty (hard - and a little younger than she is) - good foundation garments also helped me feel less self-conscious.

Yes, I have found women's petite do fit better for her frame. I'll definitely use those search words.

My niece is also busty and is very self conscious. She wore this jumpsuit to our wedding and I thought she looked beautiful!

I have a niece who is going to be 13 at my wedding and she is in the exact same boat. We're talking her into a cute jumpsuit. There are so many options now.
