Seedling/Tree Wedding Favors

Nicole, on October 28, 2012 at 4:31 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Has anyone thought about using these? I was browsing through and thought they were cute. I am not really into flowers, so I thought this could be a good idea. They could double as a escort card too.

I was MOH in my friends wedding in may. she didn't use those exactly but she did give out morning glory seeds to plant as favors in a flowers made out of tissue with her wedding colors (thanks to Pintrest!!!) anyways it was a huge hit! every one loved the idea of the seeds!

She put "We ask that you plant this and watch it grow just as a love will grow"

I absolutely love this favor. It is something usuable.

Since my daughter's theme was a Secret Garden, she wanted to do something like this for favors/escort cards. This particular style wouldn't have gone with the victorian vintage look she was going for, so instead she went with seed packets of wild flowers as parting favors.

Personally, I would not take a favor, such as this, as I do not have space to plant a tree in. So, I think it is a nice idea, but not all of your guests will be able to use them. So, be prepared to do something with those left behind, so they do not die.

    Hi Nicole!

This is a lovely idea, especially for those looking to do something a little different and help the environment too. However I agree with a comment above that this idea may not appeal to all guests. I tell couples looking to do such personalized ideas to be mindful of all your guests and YOUR wallet. As Kathy commented she would not even take the favor, so this would be an expensive favor for guests to pass on. If you’re simply looking for innovative eco-friendly ideas, consider alternatives that would appeal to a wider range of guests. An idea that an eco-bride of mine did was biodegradable invites embedded with wildflower seeds. Guest could simply plant the entire invite, water, and watch it grow in time. Many companies do such invites, she used www.botanicalpaperworks.com. I don’t have a pic of her invites on this PC, but I did attach a pic from the company’s site for an idea.

    Best Wishes,

Agreed that this does seem like a very expensive favor idea to take a risk on. I, personally, am renting and would not be able to plant a tree at home and probably wouldn't bother taking one, or I would because I would feel bad that you spent the money on it and wouldn't want to just leave it on the table but I would have no idea what to do with it.

I think flower seeds would be a better option- most people can plant flower seeds somewhere.

Or, little bamboo plants are always nice too. They can be kept inside, look nice, and are easy to care for. I received one at a wedding once and loved it. But, I did see a lot left behind of those as well.

Which is why, I feel favors in general are a waste of money.
