Second Shooter?

Angel, on September 15, 2017 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

How does everyone feel about a second shooter? Is this a must have for you?

The photographers I'm comparing either have it included in the package, or I will have to add it. I'm already looking at photography prices at the top of what I want to spend. I just wonder if a second shooter is worth paying the extra money.

I wouldnt consider it a must have but it's nice. GymRat's recent BAM shows a few takes on the same moment thats pretty cool.

We arent having one for multiple reasons. one being budget, the other being DW and im bringing my photog with me. More economical this way.

It was 100% worth to me. all our pics have a second angle, which is worth every penny. Plus one shooter did all the GM shots while the other did me and theBM so we were done with bridal party pics so fast

    Lmao, bulbasaur.

We had a second shooter and it actually saved tons of time. Like someone else mentioned, we were able to have someone with H in the groom's suite and someone with me in the bridal suite at the same time. Plus, different angles for the important stuff!

This is a personal decision, but it's often unnecessary to have a second shooter. A skilled photographer will get all the important moments and will capture things from various angles. Some photographers don't work with second shooters either. If you have extra money to splurge, sure, go for it. But if you're looking at an excellent photographer, rest assured that he or she will likely do a phenomenal job as a solo shooter :-)

Our photographers are a husband and wife team. Personally, I think it was very important to have both of them there. The guys got ready in one area, the women in another, and this way we have photos of both. They were able to position themselves in such a way as to get both of our faces reacting to the same moments. The list goes on.

Honestly, I would give preference to photographers that already have a second person included in the package. Ours were super used to always working together (obviously, since they are a couple outside of work as well) and that sort of rapport was vital to them pulling off what they did. I don't think things would have gone nearly as well if they weren't already intimately familiar with how each other shot.

I have two! It will help most when we do pics after ceremony. This way one can take groomsmen shots while other does bridesmaid shots. Also, during ceremony, one can take back shots and another front ones

This was a must for me. I need a picture of me when I first see FH and FH's face when he first sees me.

We are only having the second shooter for the ceremony though to save some money.

We were able to find a photographer at a reasonable price, even with using a second shooter. We're leaving things like the printed album out of the package since we can always get that on the back end.

As others said, we chose it for the different angles for the first look and vows, and to have one to go with the BM and one to go with the GM for get-ready shots too. Plus, I met the main photographer and the second shooter and liked the vibe I got from both.

I didn't think I would pay extra for one but it's included at no extra charge in my photography package. I'm sure I'll be happy to have had the second shooter.

My view from working weddings each weekend. A second shooter is an awesome thing to have. Each shooter will gets shots of different photo ops. For instance, one shooter will go with bridal party down to the water to take pictures while other shooter can take candid ones during cocktail hour. One can be with the groom while getting ready and the other can be with the bride. But either way you will still have beautiful photos from your wedding.

It was a must for me. We actually ended up having 3 shooters the day of cause she brought one of the woman who does editing for them and was transitioning to being a second shooter as well. Second shooter is included with all of our photographers packages.

Our photographer works with a second shooter a lot. She's also amazing solo. Most of her packages include a second shooter, which is fine with us. Smiley smile

    Thanks Beachy. :-)

Totally not necessary, but I wanted to have two different angles. I wanted ALL the shots. Here is an example. Also, I hired two cinematographers as well, and they got the exact same footage: someone was behind me, another camera was in front of H.

Well, it looks like second shooter it is!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll splurge a little on it.

Fortunately, the one I was looking at adding a 2nd shooter is giving us a 10% discount because my FH is on the SWAT team here (LEO discount) AND is throwing in a free 16x20 print because FIL was his supervisor in the 90s. Suuuhweeet! Makes the splurge feel a little better.

ETA: sorry to disappoint about JFK! lol...

I think you ask your photographer. If you picked your photographer based on their talent, the second shooter is going to not be them.

I'm not going to be having a second photographer, because we won't need one. We're having a dinner style reception and a tiny guest list, and it just wasn't worth it for us.

That being said, a friend of mine recently got married and had a second shooter and it ended up being perfect, because their photo time after the ceremony was cut like in half because the officiant was a rambler and wasted tons of time, so one photog would take the guys and one the girls and that cut a LOT of time down for those photos.

Totally thought this was about the Mark Wahlberg sequel to Shooter lol. I have no opinion, but GymRat's BAM was out of this world.
