When I say much older I really mean it! I will be 64 and he will be 75 by the time we get married. I've been a widow for almost 5 years and he's been divorced for 20 years. When I say much older I really mean it! I will be 64 and he will be 75 by the time we get married. I've been a widow for almost 5 years and he's been divorced for 20 years. We want to have a real wedding, not just go off and get married. (I did that the first time, he had the big wedding 50 years ago.) When we first began planning, we thought close family and very close friends, about 50 people, so I planned to just find a nice cocktail suit and he'd wear a suit and we'd have dinner after the ceremony. Well, it's now up to about 125 people so it seems like my dress should be a bit fancier. I know that I cannot and will not wear a white gown. I've looked at photos of mother of the bride dresses because there simply are no wedding dresses for women my age. If I tried to wear one of the styles they promote as "second wedding" dresses, I'd look ridiculous, because it seems that they are targeting women in their 30s, maybe stretching it to 40. So I need help! Ideas, please!

Bhldn has some lovely dresses that would be appropriate. There are many, but these two caught my eye:

Don't go to bridal shops, look for formal white dresses at department stores or Anne Taylor. You can even wear light silver, cream or ivory.

I too will be a 60+ bride as will be my groom, We were both married before, each for 30 years and have been single for 10+ years. I dont wish to wear white due to my skin tone so i am choosing, gold or blue or grey. I have decided on final color until i start the gown search next year. Check out Nordstroms, dillards (etc) and david bridals for mother of the bride or formal wear. I have found many many options at much more reasonable prices than wedding gowns in coloe.

I was 43. Raw silk (and therefore off-white--very off), high neck, long sleeves, over the knee, some nice detailing--found it in a department store.

I went to a local bridal salon that catered to Southern ladies. There were so many choices. You can still wear a floor length gown in a color of your choice, if you so choose. You can wear a bridal hat. So many options!! Just depends on the formality of your wedding. I think a small, local, specialty salon will have anything you desire. I've been to a wedding where the bride was in her 70's and wore a tasteful, long sleeved champagne gown with a chapel train and veil ( that's what she wanted and she had been widowed). She was lovely!! you'll find your perfect ensemble. I do love Neiman Marcus, too!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
