Second Fitting - Hate the Back Muffin Top!

Devyn, on August 3, 2018 at 4:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24
Had my second fitting today. My wedding is 9/22 and final fitting is schedule for two weeks from today (seamstress said she can accommodate a second “final fitting” before the wedding if needed). My dress really fits beautifully. It’s comfortable and I love the shape it gives me. BUT when I looked at a picture from the back, I was mortified to see a back muffin top. It’s definitely not the dress pulled too tight since it feels fine, it just photographs terribly.

Any advice? I work out 5x a week (have for years) and eat really clean as is on a mostly vegetarian diet.

Are you wearing a bra or any shapewear underneath?

I've noticed my dress is kinda doing that too. Can you ask the alterations lady whether theres a way to fix that? Or wear spanks that flatten your stomach more

The dress is beautiful! Unfortunately I think it’s just where the dress hits on your body. It falls right under the shoulder blades. I’m not sure anything except it laying higher on your body will fix that. You can practice poses that eliminate that maybe?

But don’t be discouraged cause it’s so pretty!

No shapewear since everything fits well. I don’t know how a stomach shaper spanx would help with the back spilling at the top?

Are you wearing a veil? If so, that might cover that spot so you don't even see it

My dress had the same shaped back and it gave me the same issue, It’s not anything with your body, it’s just is the shape of the cut. I asked my seamstress about it and she said it was normal and all you could do is have someone put their hands under the edge of the fabric and slide from arm pit to mid back to like smoosh the skin back down.. I do think you look gorgeous though but I understand because we are our own worse critics!

If you have a veil, that will help. It really doesn't look like fat to me, but as a PP said, just the angle at which the dress hits your body.

I have seriously considered pulling that skin as tight as I am comfortable with and taping it with athletic tape...

To be honest, that's not really a muffin top, but I can see where your concern is. It's just the way that the dress cuts across your back, under the shoulder blades. No one is going to notice it.

I think only you will notice that. The dress hugs you in all the right places. That said, do you eat a lot of carbs (bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes)? Carbs can give you extra weight and that bloated look. I really only started eating carbs (had no idea how yummy breakfast potatoes are, and garlic bread with pasta!) when my hubby & I started dating. I put on 15 pounds! Carbs. My ex was also vegetarian but he ate a lot of pizza/pasta and had 20-30 extra pounds to shed. A Keto diet helped me drop 10 in about 2-3 months.

I think once you put on your veil it will be just fine. I have a little of that too.

Veil! That would be the perfect touch and would make you feel less "exposed" in the back. It is not fat, though. I agree with everyone else that it is just where the dress hits you. You have a great shape and a gorgeous dress!

I really had to look at the photo for a while to even understand what you were talking about. I think this is only something you would notice. You can tell you are super fit, I think the dress is just hitting your body there. I wouldn’t worry about this....you look banging in this dress lol

I'm worried about this is well which is why I originally didn't want a strapless dress. Does your dress have fasteners on the inside of the bodice?

I agree with others about the veil. I wouldn't worry about it! No one will notice. Unfortunately it looks like that is just how the dress hugs you in that spot. I think you look beautiful!

Once you are in the dress and all zipped up have someone slip their fingers in at your spine and run their fingers along the hemline till they reach your sides. This smooths out and extra gathered skin. I had the same problem. It worked like a dream for me.

The dress fits beautifully, if you are very concerned about it, they may be able to add material to the top of shape the cut into a V shape to hide that-maybe even nice lace straps that widen on that area and go thinner towards the front and bottom. In any case you look fine!

Honey, I’m not seeing what you see. It just looks like your shoulders above your dress. You look stunning. It’s a beautiful dress and shows off your figure perfectly.

Do you see that in person or is it just the way it photographs? If it’s just the way it photographs, give your photographer a heads up. They’ll be able to catch it from the most flattering angle.

So sometimes you will see girls with strapless dresses on that appear to "float" in the front. This is why. As everyone said, it isnt you, just the cut. I also think NO ONE is going to notice!!! You look great

Maybe pull dress up a little or see if it's possible to convert to a corset dress where you could have the top a little looser where it doesn't squeeze that part of your body so tight!
