Second dress question

Why are so many ladies doing a separate dress for the reception? I am only curious. With spending so much on the first dress, why go with another one.

No one is telling me that I need a second dress. I've just been hearing a lot of ladies talking about a second dress and was just curious on why.

No! But you said people have long trains they might not want people to step on which made me think why wouldn’t they bustle it? Lol

The modest dress part makes sense

I think I confused myself (that didn't take much). I don't want a bustle (just saw pictures of a bustle).

Yeah, I don’t know why, but I HATE the look of bustles. Plus my dress really would not accommodate a bustle. But since I love my dress, and want to be in it all night, I actually bought 2 of the exact same dress LOL So I am shortening one into a party dress for the reception and after party.

I love the idea of making one shorter for the reception. I'm just not sure what to do with the back of my dress during the reception.

It was the only solution I could come up with to be able to technically stay in the “same” dress all night, and not have to bustle it.
Unfortunately, if you have a long train you will either have to remove the train, bustle it, or carry it around all night (they can put a loop in the skirt that you wear around your wrist). Or buy a second dress.

Beautiful, I'm starting to think of a second dress. I personally am not a fan of the look of a bustle (just me). But, I do go with a second dress I want it to be a fun style (my dream style) like a swing dress (think Grease or Hairspray).

There’s definitely no right or wrong choice- it’s all about what works for you and makes you happy! If you have a second style of dream dress you’ve had on your mind, this could be the perfect opportunity to wear both!

I'm beginning to think that too. The second dress style would definitely be one I could wear more often, lol

I was asked that I'm not because I will miss something going on at my reception. So I told them no I'm not changing

Some people just love the glam aspect of their wedding. I LOVE my dress and I love the idea of getting dressed up a looking and feeling my best. So some want to get dressed up twice. It could be that they want something easy to dance in but you can bussle any dress so I don't think that's too big of an issue.

I don’t hate bustles but they’re not my favorite. I think one can be don’t in a way that it’s not terrible lol. But I love my dress and am way too poor for a second dress or spending $2k plus alterations twice to get the same dress twice. So a bustle is my only option unfortunately

I don't want a second dress, I'm really hoping that a petticoat or a hoop skirt will give me the poof I want and to help with the train (if that makes sense)

I'm going to schedule an appointment to see if maybe adding a petticoat or hoop skirt will help.

I love my dress and I really don't want the added expense of another dress. I will try a petticoat or a hoop skirt.

My SIL wore two dresses. Her first was a ball gown with a long train/cape, while her second was a more form fitting dress (can’t remember if it was a fit and flare or a mermaid though). She felt the second would be easier to dance in. I’ve been to countless weddings over the past 10 years and my SIL was the only one that changed dresses. My dress (getting married 4/23!) has a very long train, so it will be bustled during the reception. My seamstress showed me several bustle options during my first alterations appointment, so, if you are hesitant on a bustle (based on other dresses/photos you’ve seen), I’d recommend seeing what your seamstress/alterations vendor recommends.
