Second dress fitting - bustle concerns

Lina, on March 23, 2018 at 12:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
So I had my second fitting over the weekend. Between my first and second fitting they hemmed the dress and bustled the train.

My my concern is the heaviness Of the bustle. I have a fit and flare dress and the bustle is actually a double bustle. The “under carriage” of the gown (the stun and crinoline) is bustled French and the lace on top is bustled up higher in an American style. The under carriage weighs a ton and I feel like is pulling the dress down since it’s bustled at my knees.

Any my ideas on how I can make this better? My only thought would be to hem the under carriage to my height and only have the top lace as the train. I don’t want to do this as it looks better as-is, but I also don’t want to feel like my dress is falling down all night after they bustle it.

At my third fitting they will have taken the dress in to fit me around my waist and hips, so I am hoping this fixes the weight issue.

Ugh,help! I don’t have a recent pic but I attached the one I took the first time I tried it on whole shopping.

My train and bustle sound similar to what you have.... The lining of my dress gets bustled under with a series of 7 or so loops and ties, and then the lace bustles over the top American style with buttons and loops at 5 different points.

I just finished my second fitting and they were done with alterations, and I didn't notice any pulling at all with the bustle. I would maybe suggest asking how many points they have the bustle spread across, and if it's not many, maybe if they added a few points that would help to distribute the weight of the dress across the back of the bustle. I would definitely voice my concerns about it.

My bustle has way more points than I anticipated, but while the seemstress explained it to my mother it seemed pretty straight forward to do as the ribbons underneath are numbered and match up.

I think no matter how secure they make the bustle (and they can do that), it's going to feel heavy...because you're not reducing the amount of fabric through the bustle.

When un-bustled, the floor is carrying the weight of the train. When bustled, YOU are carrying the weight of the train.

My dress is similar and I had a French bustle. I think, one the dress is properly fitted to your body, you will feel less saggy when the bustled.

Additionally, you could ask about adding a waist stay. My dress came with one and it's awesome. It's a simple stretchy band attached to the inside of your dress that wraps around your waist. It helps disburse the weight of your dress and hold it in place.

I will check with the shop when I go for my third fitting...maybe if they add more points it wouldn't pull as much.

If it's going to drive me nuts I may just have the satin hemmed and just do the lace. It doesn't look as good, but your dress is bustled for almost your entire wedding (minus the ceremony)...or at least mine will be!

I think my dress has a waist stay. it has a rubber band that clips and helps. hopefully when the dress is taken in to my measurements it will help.

Opps...I didn't mean the poofy part was part of the train. It's hemmed to my height...the satin part is the bustled part in the french and the american bustle is just the lace overlay.

I plan to also ask if maybe they can take a layer of the crinoline out of the back so it doesn't stick out/pull so much..

Once it's fitted on the sides I'm sure that will maybe help too!
