seating of grandmothers question

Nancy, on May 31, 2013 at 12:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

I have a short question, but who normally seats the grandmothers during the ceremony, along with the seating of the mothers?

I've had it where the groomsmen seat the grandmothers and along with the mothers, but I've also seen it where the husbands seat the mothers and whoever the grandmothers want to seat them, is fine as well.

Since my father is paralyzed and will be unable to seat my mother, I was thinking of my brother seating my mother and then my fiance's mother be seated by her husband. Then, the grandmothers could be seated by my little nephews (ages range from 5-8).

I hope this does not sound too confusing.

Following the seating of the grandmothers, then the groomsmen can walk the bridesmaid, etc.

How does this sound and does this sound wedding appropriate?

I think this sounds perfect! I've noticed that this seems to be an area where "etiquette" is hardly every followed, but people do what they would like and feel comfortable with. I like the idea of your nephews seating the grandmothers, and of course your brother seating your mother is a wonderful idea.

Only suggestion: your mother should be the last one seated before the processional, since (theoretically) she is the most honored. I'd seat your fiance's mother directly before her, and the grandmother's before both of them.

I think that sounds perfectly fine! Sometimes even GMs will walk them down the isle and just circle around and come back for their own walk but I like the idea of the nephews!

I agree with Barbara on the order
