Seating for ceremony!

Amber, on July 24, 2017 at 6:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

My wedding is June 2nd and we are having an outdoor ceremony that will be very short and I need seating for it. The venue provides 30 chairs and we need seating for about 100 people. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for chairs for a 30 minute ceremony. Does anyone know if renting hay or straw bales is cheap and if so anywhere that rents them or does anyone know of any chair rental or other option that is pretty cheap? Please help!

No hay or straw. People are allergic, as well as it smells and will get people's nice clothes dirty.

No. No hay. You need chairs. Ask your venue who they recommend, and do it now; June is crazy for rentals with graduations and other parties.

Your '30 minute' ceremony will be more like at least 45 minutes by the time they gather, sit and you come down the aisle. You're also talking June; it could be hot.

I agree with Mrs. B, you don't really want people to be dirty/itchy/sneezing throughout your ceremony. I'd rent chairs, maybe you can find a cheaper company outside your venue.

I'd be wearing a short dress and would hate to have to sit on hay. I don't have recommendations for chairs other than definitely get them!! Smiley smile

Is your Ceremony and reception at the same place? Does that mean you only get 30 chairs total or do you have full seating for the reception already?

My ceremony and reception are at the same place. The venue is only letting us use 30 chairs for the ceremony. I was going to have covers of some sort on the hay or straw if I rented those. Chairs are way too expensive from all the quotes I'm getting.

Did you ask your vendor if they have others you can pay to rent? Otherwise ask for their advice. Hay bales won't be any cheaper likely.

Have you ever sat on a hay bale? I'll never understand why people think this is a good idea.

Even with a blanket or cushion hay bales are not good. Cushions won't protect people who are allergic and hay bales are just plain unattractive for a wedding.

The Pinterest pics that show a cozy hay bale setting for a wedding are all hateful lies, they are not comfortable, cute or cozy. Rent chairs, this is a ceremony must. It's unacceptable that your reception and ceremony are at the same venue and they won't let you use all 100 chairs you need for both events. I'd contact them and try to work something out.

After renting the bales, you also have to tack on the price of renting/buying cushions...it's probably cheaper at that point to rent basic chairs. Honestly, try checking with a local church or VFW hall...ask around. Someone somewhere has chairs they will rent for cheap if you can't go to a company that rents.

Please don't do hay. People have serious allergies.

Look into small party rental places to get chairs from. I needed extra chairs for Easter and was able to get 6 for $4.50

Do some research and call around.

You need to provide chairs with a back for every single guest, unless they are standing up with you at the altar in your bridal partySmiley winking
