Seating Chart?

Lean , on August 22, 2019 at 9:01 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

So, my dilemma is: Guest seating chart or No

My fiancée says it will cause bottle-necking and it would take too long for our guests to find their names on the list, so he wants to do away with it… However, I want the list because it will keep everyone organized and it’s just an elegant detail to have assigned seating. Please help. What do you think?

What about escort cards? How many guests are you having?

If it's done in alphabetical order I dont think it would take nearly as long as if it's done by table. It also just depends on how many guests you're having.

I am always team seating chart!
I also don’t at all understand the idea that a seating chart will take *longer* — finding your name then finding your seat is a quick and easy process. No seating chart is the time consuming alternative— it will 100% take much more time for all your guests to organize themselves into tables, walking in circles trying to find space for their whole group, trying to see about moving chairs— self seating takes a lot of extra time !

It really doesn’t take long for people to find there name and everyone doesn’t have to do it at the same time. During the cocktail hour people will look for it. I’m a big believer in a seating chart

Seating chart! It will take longer for your guests to find open seats with an open seating floor plan. People leave single chairs in between themselves.

Unless you have under 50 people, definitely do a seating chart or place cards. It’s always awkward for those last few groups that come in and there are only single seats left, so if you are renting tables you would definitely have to add more.

Definitely do a seating chart - by table number is fine, but I'm always strongly for having some kind assignments. It'll keep you from needing extra seats for when people don't sit optimally, save anyone who doesn't know many people the awkwardness of finding their own seat, and really won't take that long for people to find their places - just aplhabitize all the names

We went without one, but most people on here are pro-seating charts. I can't imagine it would take that long for people to find their names, for that to be the reason to not have one. You could always look on pinterest for creative ideas of maybe how to do one to speed up the process of people finding their names.

I think you'll have more bottle-necking with people just wandering trying to find seats and figuring out who to sit with. If you have guests that don't know any other guests, they will feel super weird sitting down randomly at a table. You'll also have to provide extra tables and chairs since people don't sit themselves efficiently.

I had the same concern but I'm listing people alphabetically by their name with the table number after, ex Smith, John - Table 1 or something. Its quicker to go straight to S to find your name and table than looking through every table until you find your name.

And guests with spouses or partners should be able to assume that person is seated with then so no need to look for their name as well. We are only assigning tables and not seats so no escort cards for us.

I'm definitely for having a seating chart! We purchased one from Etsy allows us to list all the guests in alphabetical order, so it'll be easier to find their name and the table they're seating at.

I think escort cards are far easier than a board that every person has to squint at to find their names. You can also break escort cards into 2 tables, A-M, N-Z (for example) and have on each side of the door or something - that way people are more split up. P.S. if you do the board, organize in alphabetical order by last name and list the table number next to it. Don't organize by table, and make everyone search - that takes far longer!

I would do a seating chart, I promise your guests will prefer it.

Team seating chart or escort cards, in alphabetical order to limit the bottleneck.

So, I’ve never heard of an escort card. What exactly are they in comparison to the place cards?
