Seating Chart

Pinky Winter Promise, on June 29, 2015 at 10:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hope everyone is having a good start to their week.

I have a ways to go before making a seating chart, but I was hoping for some input. I will be doing a seating chart (place cards will be at individual tables (this way people do not misplace escort cards - my venue has 2 floors)). Place cards are to help the catering staff w/plated meals.

*Organized Alphabetically*

My questions:

1) How should I write married couples and family names? (Mr. and Mrs. John Smith; Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and Family)

2) How about married couples that do not share the same last name? (Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe; separately (filed under 'S' and 'D' respectively))

3) What if they are married, with different last names and have kids? (Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe and Family; Mr. John Smith and Family, Mrs. Jane Doe (filed under 'S' and 'D' respectively); Mr. John Smith, Mrs. Jane Doe and Family (filed under 'S' and 'D' respectively)

4) DIY? Professionally - if so, where?

5) Other input?

    1) Mr. and Mrs. John Smith. Their children should be listed separately. ex: Susy Smith and Joe Smith under S's

    2) Married couples with different last names should not be separated. Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe, should be listed under S.

    3) The children would still be listed separately and be listed under the father's name, presumably their last name (S)

    4) You could probably find someone to do this for you on Etsy. If you DIY it, you could have staples print it on a large sign that you could frame or put on an easel. If you have good handwriting, you could write it on a large chalkboard or some other way, there's a million ideas on Pinterest!

@annakay - even kids who are minors get their own line on the seating chart? (I understand giving them their own place card) - Wouldn't this make the seating chart extra long?

    1. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. John and Family (or Smith, John and Family)

    2. Smith, John and Jane Doe

    3. Smith, John and Jane Doe and Family

    4. I had an Etsy vendor do mine and did a rush order on Vista Print because I had no time to run to Staples and Pick it up.

    5. Break the last names up into visible sections

    @maltese -

I was thinking of having it split into section A, B, C (etc by last name) - do you think that's enough "splitting"?

Also we are having a pretty formal wedding - would that be the way to write if it's formal (besides keeping the Mr and Mrs) - would you always write the last name first?

Finally one last question - guests who get to bring a SO (would we list them separately)?

@Natalie...that should be fine. People's eyes will gravitate towards their "Letter Section."

As for the formality, I would use either Doe, Mr and Mrs John and Family. If there are children included in the "and Family" then give them their own line: Doe, Miss Betty. I would keep the last names first because you want to do it in alphabetical order. Its just easier to find/see like that. My first run I had the first names listed before the last and it looked like a mess and confusing.

@Maltese - I guess I had no idea children are given their own line as well. (It's gonna make our seating chart, so much longer if as many come as I think are going to). But little girls are written as "Miss" what are little boys - is it just "Mr". How about kids that are less than 2 years old (or even less than 6 months old) - do they get their own line on the seating chart as well. (Everyone will get their own place card of course).

Little ones, I would just list as "And Family"

@Maltese - so at what age would you give them their own line? 18? Younger?

@Natalie - little boys are Master.

18 and up should get separate invitations, so 18 and up should get their own lines, on your chart.
