Seating Chart vs Escort Cards

QB, on May 23, 2016 at 11:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 30

Just curious. Which are you doing for your seating arrangements? Why?

I like the idea of the seating chart, the ones I have seen on Pinterest are beautiful, however it seems like it would get pretty complicated trying to find a frame and stand. I think the escort card may be a bit easier. I am having a buffet style dinner so, I am pretty much assigning tables instead of seats.

I'm doing escort cards because we have a plated dinner and we need to denote who is having what.

I think the pro of escort cards is that you can easily make a few extra, or remove a few, for last minute guest list changes. You don't want to be updating a mirror seating chart last second because you have changes.

I have seen a ton of chicken wire frames and pushpin boards at craft stores though, I don't think it would be terribly hard to make a seating chart using something like that.

I'm doing a seating chart, but there are definitely pros and cons to each one that I'm sure ladies will share here. I have approximately 200 guests, so I just really don't have room for 200 escort cards. My plan is to alphabetize the seating chart so it's easy to find your name, and I will have 2 charts in 2 locations so that people don't get too crowded around.

I am doing a chart and assigning tables. I just happened to have a huge mirror I bought last summer at a yard sale. The venue has a large easel I can use. I'm grouping by table, only about 45 guests so hopefully they won't have difficulty finding their name.

Seating chart. We will have approximately 70 people and I think escort cards are a waste of money and just add to the trash. We are just assigning tables. FSIL had a large easel she used for her wedding and I am just going to get it printed on foam board at office depot so no frame.

I'm doing a seating chart. I just like it better. It can be stressful at the end but I also do want to keep track of all those little cards. Smiley smile

I am doing cards - because than if something changes last min (oh opps I did not RSVP but I will see you next week) its an easy change rather than a redo

I'm considering doing both, so guests can see where in the room the table is located and don't have to wander too much. But we're at least definitely doing escort cards!

We're doing escort cards that double as favors. I wanted to do an alphabetical seating chart and have the favors put out at each place setting, but someone booked a wedding the night before ours so I can't set up on Friday night anymore, and I think cards placed alphabetically might be easier.

Following for ideas. I'm concerned there won't be enough room at the venue for a big display, so we may use the same easel to display a chart that we'll use to display the big "program" at the ceremony.

We did both. My bridesmaid works at Kinko's and printed our design for us for free. We got a $10 stand for it at Michael's and a frame at Ikea for like $20-30. Then we also wanted escort cards for assigned seating at the tables so we got those off of Minted.

I don't think the cards are really necessary but they're beautiful.

We're doing escort cards that double as favors. This way we'll be able to indicate meal choices.

As a guest, I prefer escort cards. It seems like it doesn't cause as much of a bottleneck as charts do.

We have escort cards I guess you could say. What we did was have the guest name and table assignment on the envelope. Inside the envelope is a thank you card with a vintage key. We have 150ppl so we were trying to essentially do 2 things at once.

Oh and my escort cards are only table specific. I will have them alphabetic and someone helping the table.

Since we are playing on travel and adventure they will be boarding passes with the seat number = table number/name/destination etc.

@Macy that is a good point! That will probably happen to us if we do that because everyone will want to get inside quickly out of the cold.

I'm leaning toward doing 2 Seating charts for 200 guests.

We did escort cards that doubled as favors. They were 2x2x2 boxes that had chocolate in them and then their name and table number on them.

I'm actually doing both. (i'll probably hate myself later) lol. The seating chart will tell them what table and the cards will be at their seat with their meal choice on it since its a plated dinner. I really just wanted to do the chart but since I have plated with two choices i have to have some type of card.
