Seating chart or let people sit wherever?

Are you doing a seating chart? I've never really cared for them when I was a guest. It also makes me nervous if people who didn't RSVP show up. I'm having a wedding with around 150-200 guests in attendance. Should I make a chart or just allow everyone to sit where they want. Advice/ experiences...

Assign tables not chairs. Just makes it less chaotic especially with that many people.

Agree with the above - assign tables. It is just easier. I was a BM in a wedding with no assigned seats and ended up sitting with the Bride's Father and Stepmother. The MOB was so pissed!

I went to a wedding with no seating chart it was so sad our table had 2 empty chairs a family of 3 walked over asked if they were available we of course said yes we didn't know them which was fine but the wife was blind the husband had his wife and daughter sit and wondered around during dinner then when his daughter finished eating he sat in her chair and ate while she stood and watched.

I'm assigning tables to avoid chaos, and I'm only having 40 guests. With over 100, I think at least assigning tables is worth the effort.

I did assigned tables, but not seats. Are you having a buffet? If you are doing plated meals, you definitely need a seating chart so that servers know where to deliver each meal.

PLEASE make a seating chart!... it's awkward when some are left without seats because people sat "wherever" and left only 1 open at their table (and as some have pointed out, you wouldn't want to sit without your "date" wether is a SO or just a friend) while the rest is already eating. We went to FH's cousin's wedding where they didn't have one and this happened, and people STILL remembers this over the nice food/music/drinks

I know my venue at least requires we assign tables. I would check with your venues contract as well to make sure you follow their guidelines as well.

I'm doing a seating chart because I think we will be close to max capacity and I don't want random chairs being left over and couples having to split to find a seat.

I want to assign tables but my FH thinks it is unnecessary and we should just have extra tables.. I have tried so hard to convince him otherwise. HELP!!!!

I have about the same guest list and I'm assigning tables. It lets people sit wherever they want at a table but not searching for a specific seat. Also, then you don't have situations where there's a family of 4 and only 2 or 3 seats available at one table and they have to separate.

With this many guests you definitely definitely need a seating chart. You don't have to assign specific seats, but most definitely the tables.
