Seating Chart Help!

Erin, on July 9, 2017 at 7:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

I am finally doing my seating chart and it will end up looking like the picture below. A lot of our friends are dating, engaged, etc. but do not have the same last name so I'm not sure how to do this. The cards will be tables with whose at each table. I know you're supposed to be doing it alphabetical by last name, but it breaks up the couples and looks off to me. Is it okay to do it by couples or should I just leave it alphabetical and break up the couples in the chart?

I would just do alphabetical and break up couples since it's easiest to understand from a guest perspective. My initial reaction is always to check the end of things like that because I'm a W

@Spaghetti Thanks! I have them alphabetically right now, but don't want them to print them and be wrong. I think I'm just so used to seeing the couples' names together. Thanks for coming in from a guest perspective! I've only ever been to weddings that did escort cards.

Honestly, I think you can do it either way.

We're doing escort cards (not a chart like you're doing), but since there's only one card per couple, when they have different last names, we're just putting the person we know better first and filing it under that person's name.

For instance, my cousin and her fiance are coming, but I've never met him, so their card will say "Jane Doe and Jim Smith" and it will be with the rest of the Ds.

I think ether way is fine. I would look for my name next to my FH's but if they weren't next to each other I would look for mine (or vice verse)

Thanks for the input @BookcaseHat and @Stephanie! Those were my thought processes too. I would assume they wouldn't put me at a different table than my date and to just keep looking for my name.

I did it by couple rather than alphabetical. I am sure either way your guests will figure it out.

I think I'm doing mine by table. That way their names are right by each other. It'll take a little more searching for them, but oh well.

I personally prefer to have my name with FH and our table underneath. It's gonna be a pain for a bunch of people to look at one board.
