Seashells for a Guestbook - help!

Lizz M., on August 2, 2012 at 3:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So for the last few weeks, I've been on the hunt for seashells for our guest book. I pitched the idea to FH and he loved it. However, I'm coming across a few stumbling blocks. Has anyone done this for their wedding? I'm worried that the rigid shells will be too difficult for people to write on. If I did an assortment, could people still write on all of them if they need to? I included a picture of what I was originally thinking, and here is the link for the assortment: http://www.amazon.com/CLASSIC-ACCENTS-SEA-SHELLS-VARIETY/dp/B001JTOHUK/ref=sr_1_8?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1343936989&sr=1-8&keywords=seashells

Any help would be greatly appreciated! *coughHayleyCcoughCyndicough* Smiley smile

Shells like those people could write on the smooth inside with a fine tip marker.

Oo! great call Kayla. I'm worried I have this awesome vision in my head, but it won't turn out the way I'm planning and will be more of a PITA for our guests.

You can get paint pens that don't require a lot of contact - they're more drippy than a normal marker. I used them to decorate some clay plant labels I made and they worked really well.

    The dollar tree sells some.

Also, use a thin tipped permanent marker. Works wonders.

I'm curious about something else - how are you going to display them later?

Mrs. S - my thought was to put them in a large vase and put a little bit of sand in the bottom of it as a base.

OK, I'm trying to visualize it - how's it going to be different than if you did it with regular shells? I mean, if that weren't your guest book?

I was hoping you would be able to see the writing. I could get really nuts and display them in shadow boxes...

This was my inspiration. I was thinking of seashells instead of the rocks. I'm hoping it would work?

I'm not trying to make you doubt :-))) I LOVE LOVE LOVE seashells and really anything ocean-related. IDK, but it just seems to me that you wouldn't be able to see any writing on them. Could be totally wrong.

No I didn't take it that way at all! I appreciate the insight because I didn't even think of it. Maybe I'll go into a side aisle and Michael's and try to arrange them, lol. (Yup, I'm that crazy Smiley smile)) )

    I so appreciate the help!!

Ha ha, no problem! Try to arrange them and see if you like what it looks like. We did the plain e-pic with the matte (sp?) and people signed it. But now it's one of my favorite displayed wedding items. I think it's important to think about if you will like the result and what you will actually do with it.

Instead of having guests sign their names on the shells, you could have them put 1 or 2 words (love, share, hugs, peace, home, etc.).

I am also thinking of the same idea for my wedding. I think I will glued mine in the frame so that I can see their message on the shells but not in the vase. You won't be able to see the finished prints on the shells otherwise
